Dear Editor:
I see letter after letter talking about how George Bush is able to defend us, and all miss the obvious truth.
Osama bin Laden, who by his own admission orchestrated the attacks on America that killed 3,000 innocent people is alive and free today. He is alive and free because when George Bush had the opportunity to eliminate him in Afghanistan, he instead shifted the focus to Iraq. When we had a real international coalition, instead of an imagined one as exists in Iraq, George Bush abandoned the effort to start an unnecessary war. He is alive and free because George Bush decided it would be better to initiate a war of aggression against a nation which posed no threat to the United States and which had never attacked the United States.
While doing this, he gave enormous tax cuts to his extremely wealthy base and spent the country into the largest deficits in history. George Bush presided over the only administration since Herbert Hoover to not gain a single net job. Under George Bush’s leadership, health insurance rates have climbed, poverty rates have climbed, unemployment has climbed, gas prices have skyrocketed, and government spending has grown at a rate never seen before.
The fact is that this country needs a leader. We do not need someone who caters to his wealthy base while ignoring the plight of the less fortunate. We need a leader who will go after the real enemies to this country while giving us hope, not a leader who will go after manufactured enemies while giving us fear. We need a leader who when he sees opinion of him declining will actually pay attention to the cause, rather than issue another terror warning based on “chatter” that does nothing more than instill fear in the populace. We need a leader who realizes that the solution to a software engineer with three degrees losing his job to outsourcing is not, as George Bush would have you believe, a voucher to go to a community college. We need a leader who understands that a health care savings account doesn’t help a family living in poverty with little or no income, if you have no money to save, a health care savings account doesn’t do a lot of good. In short, we need a leader, not a fear-monger.
That leader, and the obvious choice this Tuesday, is John Kerry.
Thank you,
