1. Here's what they should say:

Of course, I'm sure they'll have a way to bend this one to fit their own preferences. They always do.

2. Not God's fault, God's will

Forget the republicans for a minute.

shrub's view of the world is the everything -- yes, everything -- that happens is God's will. God is speaking to him and through him. He is god's messenger. So if he loses, that's not a bad thing, from shrub's point of view. This is just another test that god has presented to him, and how he responds to it, in a sense, doesn't matter, because whatever happens as a result is god's will.

If that seems like the proverbial vicious cycle, then you have the gist of shrub's view of the world.

As for the rest of the republicans, well, I their brains will implode from the realization that they've been duped.
