Remember that 60 Minutes was going to do the missing explosive story tonight but got "scooped" by the New York Times.

So in it's place they're doing a piece on lack of body armor for our troops.

3. I don't think CBS got scooped - they agreed to NYTimes doing the story

CBS and NYTimes were working on the story jointly. They both learned that they both knew about it and decided to join forces. NYTimes had a piece ready for publication before CBS had a report ready for broadcast, and neither side wanted to sit on the story longer because it had to get out for the public's sake.
