New Iowa poll shows Kerry edges ahead of Bush

DES MOINES - A new Des Moines Sunday Register poll shows John Kerry slightly ahead of President Bush in Iowa. The poll places Kerry at 48 percent among likely voters or those who have voted early. President Bush has 45 percent.

The difference is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus three-and-a-half percent. It was conducted by telephone last Monday through Friday night.The poll shows six percent of likely voters are still undecided.

About five percent of Bush supporters say they could still change their minds and four percent of Kerry backers say they could switch before Tuesday.
