Richmond. We got to HQ at 9AM and to the Fire Fighter's union lobby office at 9:30 and closed it down at 8:30 PM-long day but well worth it. The Fire Fighter's guy (Va. President, lobbyist, Fairfax fireman) is fantastic. Everything was set up and ready and he ordered pizza for lunch for everyone. He also got the 8 lines that were down fixed as quickly as possible.
20 phone lines (8 were down for a long time) lots of really fired up volunteers- 3 high schoolers there for civics class project (one was really a Dem and press junky two others football players calling just for their classes) one older lady who needed help getting up and down the staircase (call center is in finished basement) Several really great experienced callers helping out newbies and really cranking. People waiting 20 minutes for a phone (we got the others fixed)
We have a packed list today (20 from 1-4:30) we open at 1 PM.
We called into Danville, Martinsville, Richmond and points in between. Today we think we will target Petersburg and Emporia.
I really think GOTV is really a word of mouth campaign too. Every person we talk to, hopefully, really appreciates that a PERSON took the time to call them and they will convey that to people they talk to Dem or otherwise. This afternoon is HUGE-people getting back from church, Redskins game on at 1, lots of Sunday night phone calls this evening so every call can be amplified 3 or 5 fold.
Oh and I went to the SECOND drivers meeting at 4PM and the lobby of the Richmond HQ was almost completely packed-AND THIS WAS THE SECOND MEETING OF THE DAY!!!
