Poll results

An El Paso Times/KVIA-ABC 7 poll found that El Pasoan's thought that Sen. John Kerry addressed the issues during the campaign 66 percent of the time compared to 54 percent of the time for President George Bush.
Q: If the presidential election were being held today, would you vote for Democrat John Kerry, Republican George W. Bush or independent Ralph Nader?

Kerry: 44 %, Bush: 39 %, Unsure or refused: 15 %, and Nader: 2%

President Bush's standing among El Paso voters has barely changed in four years, according to a new El Paso Times/KVIA-ABC 7 Poll -- suggesting that Democrat challenger John Kerry will likely carry the county by 12 to 20 percentage points. Democrat Al Gore won El Paso by 18 points in 2000.

The new El Paso Times-KVIA poll shows Kerry with a 5-point lead among registered voters heading into Tuesday's election. A similar poll four years ago gave Gore a 7-point lead in El Paso just before the election. Undecided El Paso voters have tended to vote Democratic on Election Day.

Felipe Martinez, 74, a Central El Pasoan, said he voted for Gore in 2000 and is voting for Kerry this time.

"I'm a Democrat, but I vote for the best person or the person I think most capable of coming through," Martinez said. He said he voted for Kerry because of "the environment, the oil prices, the big corporations, medical, pharmaceutical, Iraq."

1. Too bad the entire state of Texas is not as smart
as one of its cities. Texas will go republican. I will vote for Kerry as will most of my fellow co-workers. But Texas is a republican stronghold. Sad to say.

2. When the "emerging Democratic majority" emerges, my friends, El Paso...
will be one among many Texas cities with Republicans in the minority.
