Was NBC-TV taking a subtle swipe at B/C on its Sat. evening lineup?
NBC on Saturday evening aired the animated movie Monsters, Inc. To make a long story short for those who had not seen it, the story revolves around an energy company which employs monsters to go into children's bedrooms at night and scare the shit out of them. They harness the energy from the fear and screaming and sell it to their customers. In the end, the old management was thrown out and a couple of the grunts who had delivered the nightmares to the kids were put in charge. They overhauled the method of generating energy by having their workers make the children laugh instead of scream out of fear, because, as they said in the movie, laughter is 10 times more powerful than fear. The company was far exceeding its demand for energy under the new philosophy. And the customers were happier for not living under constant, contrived fear.

NBC airs Monsters, Inc. on the Saturday before the presidential election. We've discussed at length on this website how B/C has little else but the fear card to play in their campaign messages. Perhaps the story line was a subtle jab at B/C?

Then, on Saturday Night Live, the special musical guest was Eminem, right after he releases his controversial anti-Bush video, "Mosh." Nothing subtle there.

Am I on to something, or should I have found something else to do last night?
