Have you all volunteered?
I hope everyone has done some time at local Dem HQ this weekend. This is not over, if not, call and see what you can do.

10. Gee, thanks, I think...
Hope you don't call them that to their faces. Most of the seniors here in WI are HIGHLY MOTIVATED to elect Kerry. I'm just sayin', respect goes a long way.;)

17. In British usage
Geezer is just another term for a man. No implication of age. In some cases "diamond geezer" its actually a compliment. (means real helpful person)

Two countries separated by a common language indeed.

Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 11:52 PM by holyrollerdem
I've probably walked a total of 15 hours since Thursday, about 5 hours a day. I'm also working all day at the polls Tuesday.

on edit: oh yeah--spent the evening hours (about 6 hours) stapling flyers/door hangers together.

20. I wish I could
I work for the state and am not allowed to actively campaign for any partisan election even on my own time. I can vote and that's about it. I push it a little by writing letters to the editor. Some have criticized me for that but I don't care- the First Amendment applies no matter who you work for. Even though my job is not political in any way.

25. I volunteered online
I sent out over 2500 e-mails and personally signed up 3 new volunteers. Of course, one of them was some "joker" who put his name down as "Bush Isbest" and used my e-mail as his contact information, but the other two are genuine.

If you're wondering why there were only 2 legit sign-ups from 2500+ e-mails, I picked a tough crowd to go after. They are a bunch of "intellectuals" at a philosophy board I've run for almost 5 years, and to be quite frank, the vast majority of them are indifferent asshats. I have provided a forum for these guys and interacted with some of them for almost 5 years, and to this day, most of them couldn't be bothered to give me the time of day. Of course, I haven't been there in a month or so, as I'm pretty discouraged with the whole scene, and with their lackluster response to my personal appeal to help elect Kerry. If they can't do this for me after all I've done for them, I need to find some new online friends -- which is part of the reason I'm now at DU, and have left the entire community of 2500+ users in the hands of others.

Even so, 2 new volunteers are 2 new volunteers, and that IS worth something. I have a lot of respect for the two that did sign up.

Still, I know I could be doing more, and if I can whip my own sorry ass up out of this chair, I'm going to get on those phones at the local HQ before this is all over. To be frank, I hate phone work and don't look forward to the possibility of being cussed out by "phone freepers," but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I really don't have any legitimate excuse not to do all I can, even if it gets unpleasant.
