1. St. Paul Pioneer Press goes for The Chimpinator
because it is a right-wing freeper bird cage liner. Here's what they said about him in 2000: "He has led his party smartly toward the political center on key issues...It is unlikely that in four years he could dislodge the Supreme Court majority supporting women's fundamental right to choose. We hope Bush will live up to his pledge that he will apply no abortion litmus test to court appointments....On national security and foreign policy, Gore has both the better grasp of future challenges and a more frank assessment of the price tag to taxpayers. Bush lacks direct experience. But his instincts seem serious and sane. His advisers in this area, beginning with vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney, are superb!" Of course, this turned out to be a steaming pile of crap, but they probably will endorse him anyhow because that's what they do, maybe just because the Minneapolis Star-Tribune endorsed Kerry. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but I'm not hopeful.

Though they did endorse Feingold.

If they don't endorse W this year, or decline to endorse anyone, this will look really bad for Bush. The PiPress is unabashedly conservative.

They'll probably go W just because of the Star Tribune. Then again, many Knight Ridder papers went Kerry this year.

I had to cross it all out, since I saw this, and it looks like the Pioneer Distress is not out to shock anyone. They're going W:

St. Paul Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn., endorsed Bush on Oct. 31:

"This is the George Bush that we would like again to endorse, the president who will govern from the middle, who pursues policies that unite, rather than divide. The president who understands that tax cuts are not a gift from a generous government, but rather the results of a frugal government living within its means and taking less from its citizens as a result. The president who holds close to his heart the notions of smaller government, individual liberty and unfettered opportunity for all Americans."

Oh, puh-leeze!

3. WTF were these guys smoking when they came up with those reasons
for their endorsements?

Govern from the middle?

Pursues policies that unite, rather than divide?

Frugal government living within its means?

The president who holds close to his heart...individual liberty?

I would love to be a potato chip salesman for that office when they wrote their endorsement. I could have sold out enough to retire at an early age.
