I found this link at Media Matters for America. Louise Slaughter D-NY is one of the sponsors for the petition.

Here's what I wrote in the comments box:
I hope this issue takes highest priority for legislators. There is nothing more compelling at this time in our history. Outlets such as FOX News and CNN which are presently endangering our American ideals of integrity and excellence should be held accountable, faced with consequences and shut down, with a widely publicized explanation for their demise.

3. Its important for us to WORK for the Fairness Doctrine....

..after this election we have to work hard to get a Dem Majority in the house and senate in two years. There will still be much work to do - getting rid of Bush is only the first step.

than working to get a Dem Majority in the house. Just as the pugs have taken us on in unwavering attacks, Dems must react in kind over the next few years to get on equal footing again. The Democrats in congress are not allowed to participate in the most basic level of the American process.

Freedom of Speech does not mean Freedom to Lie.
Political candidates and news organization need to
be held just as accountable as everyone else.
I work in advertising - if I were to make a false claim
or unfair comparison, the FTC and the FCC would impose
harsh penalties faster than you can imagine.
There is no rational reason why politicians and journalists
are not held to the same standard. I would also suggest
that we consider toughening up libel laws - there is
very a clear line between opinion and outright distortion.

Short of legislation... it's up to all of us to persistently
call these liars out on their "fair and balanced" smears.
We need to be relentless... as long as we let liars get
away with their abuse, the more emboldened they become.
We need to beat them back with the truth every time.
It's gonna be a very tough job.. like ridding a house of
cockroaches.... but we gotta do it to save our home.
