A fine song even for a non-military man, but outstanding for an ex-Marine.

35. EX-Marine!?! There is no such thing...
Just kidding. But I'm sure your boss will tell you there are former Marines and dead Marines, but there are NO ex-Marines. (Even though I'd like to nominate a few for the term...like Ollie North and Joe McCarthy...)

BTW, I was a Drill Instructor at MCRD San Diego.

As for songs, I'm surprised no one's ever used that oldie "Let The Day Begin" by The Call. Sure, it sounds like a beer commercial, but it's peppy and positive.

I don't suppose The Call's other big hit would fly. The one with the line about "corporate criminals playing with tanks..."

I'm trying to think of songs that mention Marines, but the only one that comes to mind is Johnny Cash's "Ballad of Ira Hayes." Not exactly an upbeat toe-tapper.

11. Assuming your candidate is a Democrat.........
OK, just kidding.

I think.

How about Mellencamp's "Your Life Is Now"?

See the moon roll across the stars
See the seasons turn like a heart
Your father's days are lost to you
This is your time here to do what you will do

CHORUS:
Your life is now your life is now your life is now
In this undiscovered moment
Lift your head up above the crowd
We could shake this world
If you would only show us how
Your life is now

Would you teach your children to tell the truth
Would you take the high road if you could choose
Do you believe you're a victim of a great compromise
'Cause I believe you could change your mind and change our lives

CHORUS:
Your life is now your life is now your life is now
In this undiscovered moment
Lift your head up above the crowd
We could shake this world
If you would only show us how
Your life is now

Would you teach your children to tell the truth
This is your time here to do what you will do

CHORUS:
Your life is now your life is now your life is now
In this undiscovered moment
Lift your head up above the crowd
We could shake this world
If you would only show us how
Your life is now

Your life is now your life is now your life is now
In this undiscovered moment
Lift your head up above the crowd
We could shake this world
If you would only show us how
Your life is now

13. Moran
He's my Congressman, and, even though I voted for him, he's been nothing but an embarrassment. He was an embarrassment from the beginning, when he was our mayor.

Now he's finally found a rich wife, his third, so maybe he'll be less anti-semitic and more liberal.

He screwed Clinton so bad, I'll never forgive him for that.

He was struggling with the booze for awhile. But you have to admit that ANYONE is better than Lisa Marie (no relation to the Presley family) CHENEY (no relation to the Cheneys) is a cheapass scuzzball who will run the most dispicable ads in an effort to win.

Jim is, admittedly, not perfect. But he beats the alternative.

But, he's lost me as far as giving him $$. I used to be a contributor. Not any more. He betrayed Clinton and voted for impeachment. The nerve of that man.

You might not know that his vote would have gone the other way if there could have been a difference in the result. They did the count, and he sought and received permission to deviate to hold onto his own seat.

Since you live in his district, you are always crowded out on the metro by uniforms galore at rush hour. And there is a church on every other block in Fairfax County. He was reflecting the sense of his constituency, and doing it for survival as much as anything else.

But I really thought he'd vote his conscience.

Fortunately, I don't ever ride Metro.

But, don't you think his seat is terrifically secure? I think he could have voted properly, and still held onto his seat.

Disloyalty, especially when the Clintons went out of their way to help with their little girl when she was diagnosed with brain cancer, bothers me.

29. No, I don't and that is why your vote is especially important
Please, hold your nose and do it. He needs every vote. Cheney is putting up a dispicable ad that highlights his unfortunate and rather tumultuous personal life, as well as LIES about that incident with the little kid who tried to jack his car.

(FOR THOSE UNAWARE OF THE STORY--Moran went to a school to talk to the kiddies. A little punk shit came up to him and demanded his car keys and said he'd stick the congressman if he didn't hand 'em over. Moran grabbed the punk--he was little--stuffed him under his arm and dragged him into the principal's office. Later, the mother attempted to sue poor Jim for it. It went nowhere. Miss CHENEY is calling this incident "assault on a child. If it had been me, I would have slapped the crap out of the little punk!)

32. I think I can speak for most Arlington residents in saying
for the most part, we like his voting record very much. We don't care about his personal life; it isn't our business.

And, he got a rousing reception at the 8th district convention last spring, so he has a lot of support from people in Alexandria and other parts of his district.

He's not taking anything for granted as evidenced by his Tv advertisements shown the past couple of weeks, in which he strongly supports Kerry-Edwards as well, so even though they are not heavily advertising here, they are benefiting.

I think he also gets some sympathy because the Post seems to work so hard to magnify some small misstep and insult his constituents in the process, e.g., "how can you idiots keep returning that guy to Congress? bla bla bla." The answer is simple, WaPo Rethugs: Because he supports the things we care about. That's what we're paying him to do.

and the employees there were VERY grateful to him for all the effort he made to get them their jobs back, even those who commuted there from outside his district. They felt he was their strongest advocate and the only one who cared about "the little guys."

Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger Lyrics

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

Chorus:
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive

chorus

Risin' up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

chorus

The eye of the tiger (repeats out)...

30. Something in The Air by Thunderclap Newman
This may be a little to revolutionary and a little too violent, but I'd love to hear this as a campaign victory song. It just so much suggests a time when people really felt like there was a great deal at stake and that the world was on the verge of becoming really great if people just would make a serious effort at achieving their goals.

Artist: Thunderclap Newman Lyrics
Song: Something In The Air Lyrics

Call out the instigators
Because there's something in the air
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Lock up the streets and houses
Because there's something in the air
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Hand out the arms and ammo
We're going to blast our way through here
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together

I wish I knew what bands David liked growing up (we're maybe third cousins and got together a couple of times a year; I do remember he used to like Def Leppard...he'd kill me for telling you that!? We went to a Hanukkah party at his Mom's house in, like, 1983, when that song "Photograph" was big and I remember him going nuts when the video came on?! LOL!).

"Power to the People" by John Lennon
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on.

Say you want a revolution,
We better get on right away,
Well you get on your feet,
And out on the street.

Singing power to the people,
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on.

A million workers working for nothing,
You better give 'em what they really own,
We got to put you down,
When we come into town.

Singing power to the people,
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on.

I gotta ask you comrades and brothers,
How do you treat you own woman back home,
She got to be herself,
So she can free herself.

Singing power to the people,
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on.
Now, now, now, now.

Oh well, power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on.

Yeah, power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on.

Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people.
Power to the people, right on...

"You've Got A Friend" by Carole King

When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there, yeah, yeah,
you've got a friend.

If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow,
keep your head together and call my name out loud.
Soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend? People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you. Well, they'll take your soul if you let them,
oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call, Lord, I'll be there, yeah, yeah,
you've got a friend. You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend. Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you've got a friend.

How about "Shower the People" by James Taylor
Here are the lyrics:

Shower the People

You can play the game and you can act out the part,
even though you know it wasn't written for you.
Tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart ashamed of playing the fool?
One thing can lead to another; it doesn't take any sacrifice.
Oh, father and mother, sister and brother, if it feels nice, don't think twice,
just shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna work out fine if you only will do as I say, just
shower the people you love with love, show them the way you feel.
Things are gonna be much better if you only will.

You can run but you cannot hide, this is widely known.
Tell me, what you plan to do with your foolish pride when you're all by yourself, alone.
Once you tell somebody the way that you feel, you can feel it beginning to ease.
I think it's true what they say about the squeaky wheel always getting the grease.
Better to shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna be just fine if you only will what I’d like to do to you.
Shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna be much better if you only will.

Shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
You'll feel better right away.
Don't take much to do, sell you pride.
They say in every life, they say the rain must fall, just like pouring rain, make it rain.
Make it rain, love, love, love is sunshine, oh yes,
Make it rain, love, love, love is sunshine. Everybody, everybody.

44. Virginia calls for Country or Southern Rock
How about "Simple Kinda Man" by Lynard Skynard- It shows both humility and integrity- or if you want to be more "in your face", Hank Williams Jr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive".

46. Maybe "Glory Days" by Springsteen. He's a Marine so this may be
a good one. It's upbeat, too. I was also thinking about "Celebration" or something along those lines (also "Good Times" by Chic or "Ain't No Stoppin' Up Now").

54. Jessica by the Allman Brothers. Infectious, rocking, upbeat instrumental.
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 08:45 PM by henslee
Southern boogie woogie groove. Great guitar work but not a true guitar solo. Brilliantly clear recording. Sounds great and not obnoxious when blasted through crappy speakers. One of those quality songs you hear a lot but never quite know what it is.

If you are not familiar with the song (and I am pretty sure it is titled "Jessica") listen to it.

55. I'm an old person...
I have been singing "Happy Days Are Here Again" off-key for two weeks to the annoyance of my family.

Sometime the old traditions are best ;-)
