PBS Frontline: Rumsfeld's War - A MUST-SEE!
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 10:01 AM by Roland99
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/pentagon/

Did anybody catch this last night? The documentary will be available for viewing beginning tomorrow (according to the Frontline website).

VERY eye-opening account of Rumsfeld's mindset and his bent on creating a thin military that can be deployed quickly. A mindset that has greatly hurt us in securing the peace in Iraq.

It was Rumsfeld who forced Gen. Shinseki out due to Gen. Shinseki's recommendations that we use several hundred thousand troops.

It was Rumsfeld who kept forcing Gen. Franks to come back with revised invasion plans showing quicker deployment and fewer troops. That part is all in Woodward's book Plan of Attack.

Watch this documentary!!

2. my honey and I watched
Wish I had thought to record it. Between that show and Sy Hersh's latest book, I wonder how long Rummie can stay out of prison for war crimes.

3. I saw it
Very painfull to watch.
Such assholes.

I am afraid, though, that people who watch PBS are 100% in Kerry;s camp

7. My hubby and I just happened to flip it on last night
and it was truly breathtaking. I can't recommend this show highly enough. The saddest thing, to me, was that there were a few men who knew precisely how wrong this whole Iraq invasion was, they could've stood up and said NO, but they lacked spines. I don't care how many stars are on your lapel, if you can't say NO to an immoral invasion of a country that has done us no wrong, then you are a worthless piece of shit dust. This QUAGMIRE could have been stopped at several points along the way. So now it's up to We the People to clean house next week. If we don't, then we're no better than the chickenshits.

I had nightmares after that show last night -- too many awful pictures of Rummy and Cheney, bleccch! Waaaaaay too much evil before bedtime.

15. General Shinseki DID stand up...
...before and after 9/11. He was a thorn in the side of Rummy and the NeoCon daydreamers, and they finally got rid of him for it. History has proven him right.

For a good read, check out Shinseki's farewell address:

Shinseki's Farewell

"You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment, but you cannot lead without it; and without leadership, command is a hollow experience --a vacuum often filled with mistrust and arrogance."

9. Be sure to check your local listings...
I'm sure it will be on again.

Frontline's The Choice 2004 has been aired a few times locally since it's premier.

10. Made me hate that bastard even more...
he's a sick old man. Too bad he's not a sick dog or horse. We'll put it out of his misery quick. Sure, and little bush is a worse bastard, idiot for covering up Rumpbutt's personal bad direction.

How can those people live with themselves? Their main goal is to protect their asses and the hell with the country. God Have Mercy, if bush steals the elections again.

11. I Kept Pushing The Campaign To Distinguish Rumsfeld From Powell
With Kerry coming out hard as a supporter of the Powell Doctrine - lots of diplomatic work, exhausting peaceful solutions, and applying overwhelming force on the ground (as opposed to the strategically suspect bombing campaigns like "shock and awe.")

Rumsfeld's war created thin supply lines, left ground forces overexposed with inadequate artillery support, and utterly failed to secure both urban centers like Baghdad - thus inviting the inevitable chaos - and suspected WMD sites.

I would love to check it out, and I'll make a point of trying to Tivo it.

12. Unbelievable
It amazes me that this information is out in the open, that PBS can even produce a documentary about it, yet not only are men like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz not in prison, they're still in office. Everybody should see this documentary.

14. Putting two and two together we see this Transformation as the source...
of MANY of the problems in Iraq.

The latest being the 380 tons of high-density explosives left unprotected. How could it be protected when we were running the war on the cheap?
