Know any Republicans who'll be voting for Kerry?
I know several. Some are strongly for Kerry and some said they just won't vote on the presidential question.

This article, Republicans for Kerry, in The Nation (http://www.thenation.com/blogs/actnow?bid=4) by Peter Rothberg was encouraging.

If Bush doesn't get all the Republicans he got in 2000, doesn't that put him at a big disadvantage in simply turning out his base --especially given how mobilized Dems have become?

I know 1st time voting college students who are so angered by BushCo that they have voted early here in Colorado. Despite the media sugesting they won't turn out, I think we are going to be surprised by the youth vote.

6. I know dozens
including the former wife of an evangelical minister.

One of my uncles, who has always voted Repug, said he would vote for Hillary if that is what it would take to get Dubya out, and he reeeaalllly dislikes Hillary.

I also know several free spirits who voted for Nader last time around who are appalled at the consequences of throwing away their votes in 2000. They are firmly behind Kerry.

These are Nebraska farmers and small town (populations of less than 1,000) people I'm talking about, folks Dubya and Rove consider their base.

My own Father, a lifetime Republican who is 65 among that list! Some of them didn't need my gentle nudging and came to me to announce they were sick of Bush. :)

9. Yeah, about 10-12 high tech sales people/ executive friends.
They were reflexive Republicans who liked Clinton well enough but not enough so to make a commitment to the Democratic party. Bush has changed all that. Everyone I run into in the network services industry just despises Bush. They volunteer it w/out me even asking. It's great! I'm gracious and say "I told you so, you dweeb. You are voting aren't you?" They say yes and then we carry on. Very heartening.

10. Yes, my Dad....
....who when I was growing up as a child, had a print of Nathan Bedford Forrest hanging over our fireplace. In the 80's, he had pictures of Reagan in his office, and since then - he's 66 years old - has transformed into a Democrat, and is embarrassed at how he used to think. All those years, I worked on him very hard to see the error of his ways. You see guys, its never to late to change, and that in itself, is an inspiration.

13. I was in the car today with the radio on for company.
A show was on with the usual hate fest towards libruls and rah rah Bush.
A caller was on there from the Fundies. He declared he was voting for Michael somebody on a third party because he couldn't vote for Bush because of whatever wedge issue it was.
I checked my local ballot to see who this Michael was. Unfortunately, both the third party candidates are named Michael.
The candidate for the Constitution Party is Michael A Peroutka (VP chuck Baldwin.) The candidate for the Libertarian Party is Michael Badnarik (VP is Richard Campagna.)
I think it was the Constitution Party Michael. So if any DUers have fundie friends who are concerned about the wedge issues, steer them towards a Michael. If they aren't going to vote for Kerry, not voting for bush is the second best choice.

15. No, but
I know a bunch of moderate Dems who voted for Shrub in 2k, who are voting for Kerry now. I know several true conservatives (not neo-cons or fundies) who aren't voting because of deficits, patriot act, and the bungling of Iraq. This is being bolstered by Tucker Carlson showing up on my University's campus last week saying he wasn't voting.

18. Two at work, and my uncle...
The two at work are furious at what Bush has done to their party, and my uncle is even more furious about what he's done to the country. Also, a Nader voter who has decided to back Kerry this time around. And about a dozen who didn't vote last time (myself included... I'm so ashamed) who are Kerry all the way this year.

32. My friend is voting "D" for the first time -- I helped!!
Last night I was having drinks with a friend and his wife, similar to the night shortly after 9/11 when he was proclaiming Bush was a god and we must bomb the shit out of the entire Arab world. I've been working on him subtly ever since because I thought if I pushed too hard, he'd pull away. Everytime we met for lunch or drinks or just walking down the hall, I managed to work in some criticism of whatever Bushco's latest scandal, failure or cover-up was being hashed out here at DU.

I began to sense a real change in him about a year ago. Now he brings up politics and he is scathing when he talks about Bush/Cheney/Iraq/Hallburton...you name it. I can tell he's reading a lot more and scoffing at TV news which used to be his sole source of information.

He admitted to me last night he was voting for Kerry and would be pulling the lever for a Dem for the first time in his life. He said he voted for Reagan once and the rest of the time he said he "threw away" his vote on whatever dark-horse candidate was destined to lose. He said our conversations helped him come to this decision.

Now I just have to work on his wife.:)

stories about Republicans voting for Kerry. I just heard a guy call in to "Morning Sedition" and say he was a Republican voting for Kerry.

Maybe Bush should worry about his own base, instead of worrying about attracting Democrat voters.

42. No, but I'm in a ultra-blue state so its OK, however...
And, I think they are voting for Bushco begrudgingly. They hate his domestic policies, and that he's a big reason the industry of my company is in the crapper (we've had 40% reduction in the number of employees)

BUT

They are sticking with Bushco because they can't imagine that they made a huge mistake in supporting the Iraq war. Its as if their pride won't allow them to do otherwise.
