Flame on! Should we Blast the RNC "Cagers" into oblivion?
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:06 PM by ciaobox
OK. Here are the email addresses of the rightwing nuts that were going to take part in "Caging" in Florida (as we recently learned, "Caging" is an attempt to disenfranchise African American voters). This list INCLUDES the Research Director and Deputy Commications Director of the RNC!!!

What are your thoughts here? Should we tell these assholes that we are onto them and if they even TRY to cage any legally registered Dems, we will be there with video cameras in-hand to stop them? Any ohter ideas?

3. You may fire when ready, Mr. Gridley.
And remember that it would be bad and evil to plug those addresses into the web sites that offer to deliver free porn to your inbox.

5. Greg Palast reports on GOP's "Caging" list
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/3956129.stm

Most of the names on the list are from predominately black and Democratic areas of Jacksonville. Surprise Surprise.

They intend to challenge these voters at the polls.

Kos is posting it too: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/26/153123/52

What dot he people on the spreadsheet have to do with it? did they just identify their names?

10. They will challenge Democratic voters on election day
From the BBC article:

They may then only vote "provisionally" after signing an affidavit attesting to their legal voting status.

Mass challenges have never occurred in Florida. Indeed, says Mr Sancho, not one challenge has been made to a voter "in the 16 years I've been supervisor of elections."

"Quite frankly, this process can be used to slow down the voting process and cause chaos on election day; and discourage voters from voting."

Sancho calls it "intimidation." And it may be illegal.

11. So how does a challenge work?
Do they just say..."Hi i'm from the RNC and I challenge your right to vote?"

Or "i'm sorry, you're not eligible to vote in this precint no matter what you're registration card says?"

I don't get it. How could they possibly get away with that?

My grand idea for the caging list was so they could send each one of these people a letter stating that there was a warrant for their arrest for overdue parking tickets or some such thing, and they would either have to bring 1500 bucks, or be prepared ot get arrested at their polling station.

12. No I don't think so. The challenge occurs when the
provisional ballots are being counted. Like another version of "I don't hink it a vote cause it's a hanging chad" story. For each provisional ballot, the voter must be verified to be registered, and a legal voter, in some areas, he must have cast the provisional ballot within the county he was supposed to vote, and I thing some even require him to be in the correct precinct.

It could be a real mess if all these attorneys decide to scrutinize each ballot.

14. So they tell these people
they aren't on the list, or have they taken them from GOTV reg efforts and "lost" their registrations?

I wish there was way to let these people know their names have show up on the web and that the republicans have bene keeping track of them, without them getting all paranoid and not voting at all.

13. I think the biggest thing is that
it will slow down the process and discourage people from going through the "trouble" of voting...

Don't know for sure though. Not to mention that they are singling out people for what, exactly?

I think the other poster answered this better than I can...and I'd like to hear more people chime in because I'm kind of flabbergasted too!

15. Attachments are on the site
Not sure if everone realizes this, but you can download the attachments right off the web page. People in FL can contact these voters on the caging list and tell them what the GOP is up to, to make sure they're prepared for challenges - and to make sure they tell their friends what scum the Republicans are.

16. Caging happening in Ohio as well?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A62645-2004Oct25.html?sub=AR

Republicans have already filed 35,000 challenges to voters' eligibility and are preparing to send recruits into 8,000 polling places next Tuesday to challenge other voters they suspect are not eligible, particularly hundreds of thousands of the newly registered. Democrats are alarmed at the effort, saying it could tie up voting and keep many away from the polls.
