North Carolina must be tightening, Edwards rally set for Friday
John Edwards will appear at a "Fresh Start for America" at the J.S. Dorton Arena at the NC State Fairgrounds in Raligh on Friday--gates opening at 5:30 pm.

I think that is encouraging--they must feel that things are tightening in NC enough to send Edwards in.

2. I hope so! I hope so!
Early voting has been huge despite attempted suppression by the Repugs. Seems to be making people just a little more angry and more determined to vote. Last week in Charlotte the wait to vote was 30-45 min. This week 1 hr. plus. We got the momentum. Send him on down! Help is on the way!

3. Now there's an October surprise!
Namely, suddenly appearing in all of the states you supposedly had written off: VA, NC, AZ, Arkansas! :bounce:

4. I wish so, but
he just probably has to make an appearance so that Rove can't say he has abandoned his home state and is doing a "Gore".

8. I did ride through part of NC Monday (western part, which is normally
Repuke country) and saw almost half Kerry/Edwards yard signs. That surprised me. In the Repukelican county I live in in SC, I've seen 3 K/E signs and 300 B/C signs.

9. All the more reason to vote in those states
Even if you think Kerry is a long-shot, it's better to go down fighting.

11. LONG lines to vote
My brother works at Pullen Arts Center in Raleigh. They opened up for early voting on Saturday and the wait was an hour and a half!

I live in Durham and Kerry signs outnumber Bush at least 10 to 1, maybe 20 to 1!

IF we continue our GOTV efforts through November 2nd, I believe NC will go (surprise!) BLUE!

(What will be media talking heads have to say about that????!!!!)

15. As many folks have stated this election reminds them of 1980
(Not that Carter was anywhere near as bad a president as Bush) but the polls were close all thru October and then in the last weekend, people decided for change and suddenly what was a nail-biter turned out to be a landslide for Reagan, and many states which were expected to go Carter (NC, SC, NY, MA, ARK, TN, ect) wound up going to Reagan, by small margins, but still Reagan got their electoral votes. I think that is a distinct possibility this year as well.

17. 3rd party candidate John Anderson got a huge vote in '80
and helped Reagan carry Massachusetts.

16. THANKS for the notification!!
I'm taking Friday off so I can be at Dorton Arena when gates open to proudly welcome hometown boy Johnny Edwards.

The July 10th Kerry/Edwards rally on the NC State campus here in Raleigh was a stirring success. I'm sure this one will be much the same. Dorton Arena holds about 7,000 people; I'll bet they'll be lined up 5 deep around the arena to hear what's going on.

I'm psyched about this! Thanks for the word!

We're gonna win this thing, NC DU'ers!

GET OUT THE VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18. This is probably an aid to Erskine Bowles than an attempt to win NC
The campaign will never concede that, of course. Even with Edwards on the ticket, NC figures to remain red, but by a lesser 4-8 point margin.

Bowles has been slipping in the polls vs. Burr in an attempt to hold Edwards's senate seat, from up high single digits to down as many as 4 in some polls. Bowles was hardly the ideal candidate to retain Edwards's seat, simply based on his loss to Elizabeth Dole in 2002. Better than anyone we had, but someone remembered as a recent loser is never perfect, especially with the partisan tilt of the state against us.

Edwards is more popular in North Carolina now than when he entered the presidential race. We desperately need that senate seat to have any chance of 50+.

20. Agreed.
Keeping that senate seat is critical. Easley's a lock in the gubernatorial race, but I really want to see Bowles beat Bush-bootlicking-Burr.

19. Yeah, but they already gained ground in Raleigh, he should be appearing
in the Greensboro and Charlotte area where they are more likely to find votes.
