what should the OH, FL voters do when accosted at the polls?
I am guessing there is going to be physical confrontation at many of the polls in Dem precincts in the swing states tuesday. What exactly is our "last resort" in case of psychotic wingers (or, in the case of FL, guardsmen) trying to deny people their right to vote?

1. Call the police, have lawyers present and kick them in the balls

8. You need the lawyer from Strange Brew, he jumps over the rail when
the media rush forth and starts kicking their asses, literally! One of the hosers then says, "Beauty! Chuck Norris for the defense, eh".

2. Sue
There are going to be flocks of lawyers there. Anybody gets physical, they will be financially ruined.

5. i don't think suing will work
as we saw in 2000, if the election is not decided on tuesday, the GOP will just declare themselves the winners. we can't drag this out for a month like last time.

4. 1-866-OUR-VOTE
This is an Election Protection hotline where lawyers can help you. Physical assaults obviously should be reported to the police.

7. 1-866-OUR-VOTE
I'm a lawyer, and I just today I went to a training for "Election Protection" (1-866-OUR-VOTE).

There are 4 major call centers covering all 50 states and D.C. They'll be routed to the proper place. We have specific training for how to deal with these issues, we're aware of them, and we have lawyers on the ground in 12 critical battleground states for a "rapid response" (We also have presences in other states.

If you want info, try www.lawyerscomm.org.

There were about 100 lawyers at the training session on Saturday (it was only one of several sessions -- and this is Minnesota, where they don't anticiapte as bad a problem as FL or OH because we have same-day registration). But even here, a lot of people are really fired up about this program. Teams of lawyers will be stationed outside identified "problem" precincts to help if they try to challenge or otherwise interfere with anybody's right to vote, and people can also call the hotline directly. They will NOT steal another election!

19. Also
IN many areas of Florida, there will be people at the polls tp give them local telephone numbers to call for the legal swat teams to come in. In Duval County there are a total of 4 numbers incliding the one you gave above.

20. Or Cnn.
Fight like you've never fought before, care more than you have ever cared before, vote like you never have before, be an American like you've never been before.

A la Neil Diamond on Brother Loves Travelin' Show. Bring out the babies, drag the old ladies, everyone knows, everyone shows at Brother Love's Shows. VOTE. Get your voters out. WE outnumber them.
WE know that we are suffering what not needs to be endured.

SC is so pitiful that it doesn't even bother to know who is running for school boards, judges, sheriff, clerk of court, and even more they are only expending their time on Kerry/Edwards (for whom we are going to vote anyway) and Inez Tennenbausm (for whom I will vote reluctantly.)

That is how the republicans got control, witch I posted and explained long, long ago. And if those who are not republicans in any State are too scared to label themselves as democrats, it out of cowardice and deceit.

Stand up and be counted. Investigate every State senator or Representative, every school board member, every sheriff, every commissioner of anything, every judge, and every button you are going to push, every screen you are going to touch, every punch card you are going to punch. Councilman or woman, State senator or Representative. Don't be lazy.

The republicans did it from the ground up. We can do the same.

But we have to risk, our jobs, our lives, our homes, our friendships, and that isn't going to be easy, except for one thing..

Learn your voting apparatus, whatever it is. Do it correctly. Be legitimately registered to vote, and find that 1-800 Number to call.
Democrats don't have to cheat or lie. If I can find it again, I will send it.

But know what and whom you are voting for. I am going to post the article for which the author is given full credit, which I posted some time ago.

Matter of fact. I am going to contact the author and ask him to post it himself.

His name is Joe Conason, and if his words ever had meaning to fight back, they do now.

Love you all. Vote well.

Get off your duffs and don't think your one vote won't count. But start from the ground up.

DNC will have observers at key polling places in swing states
The goal is to have one or two lawyers at key polling places to deal with any attempts at intimidation or denial of voting rights.

21. Hopefully ALL
polling places in Ohio will have trained poll checkers. In some cases the checkers will be lawyers able to deal directly with problems. IF things get bad, checkers will have the ability to call a phone bank of lawyers for advice or to call in the marines.

The "800" numbers may not be able to offer immediate assistance to an individual voter, however the local poll checker, who will be right on the spot, should be able to render assistance or at least put the voter in touch with local authorities trained to help.

10. In many areas
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 05:47 PM by mtnester
there will be people there from Election Protection to help you, look for them outside your precinct (same people as 1-866-our-vote). I know all of Franklin county will have watchers, and they are ready to help you. If your county does not have those, the numbers and suggestions listed are perfect.

My suggestion is to vote as early as possible so if any issues crop up, they can be dealt with.

11. stand their ground and PLEASE someone take pix with their phones
and everyone else call the 800 number. Our GOTV people are being trained to be watchers at the polls - watching for the other side to intimidate, that is.

14. I like the video camera ideas. We need to get media coverage at
the busiest polling places, especially those where minority voters go most and will be challenged the most. Any thuggery should be seen on national news.

16. See if you can get a provisional ballot.
If not call that 866 number.

I also like the coughing in their faces idea. Gives you back your personal space.

18. NOTE - PROVISIONALS IN OHIO
you MUST be in your proper precinct to get a provisional ballot according to the most recent court ruling...if you cast a provisional ballot outside your proper precinct, it will be disqualified and not counted. The poll worker should not let you do it, and should help you find your precinct. If not go outside and ask a poll watcher to help you.
