Security Council members deny meeting Kerry

By Joel Mowbray
SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES

U.N. ambassadors from several nations are disputing assertions by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry that he met for hours with all members of the U.N. Security Council just a week before voting in October 2002 to authorize the use of force in Iraq...

But of the five ambassadors on the Security Council in 2002 who were reached directly for comment, four said they had never met Mr. Kerry. The four also said that no one who worked for their countries' U.N. missions had met with Mr. Kerry either.

The former ambassadors who said on the record they had never met Mr. Kerry included the representatives of Mexico, Colombia and Bulgaria. The ambassador of a fourth country gave a similar account on the condition that his country not be identified...

The Times was only able to confirm directly that Mr. Kerry had met with representatives of France, Singapore and Cameroon.
In addition, second-hand accounts have Mr. Kerry meeting with representatives of Britain."

He forgot Bulgaria! We're sunk now.

9. They are so full of it, they should choke
He said he met with members of the security council. He did not say he met with all members of the security council. At the meeting, he talk with all present. That's two very different things.

2. Pretty lame but that Gore invented the Internet thing was lame too.
I think that it's all going to depend on how the media plays this and whether the NYT missing explosives story gets coverage. I expect to see all regular suspects beating this one to death.

3. desperate
I'm surprised Kerry gave the weasels anything to work with but of all the possible "gotchas" this is pretty tame.

5. Please don't dis Bulgaria.
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 06:12 AM by James T. Kirk
Bulgaria is a small country, but they have sent 485 troops to Iraq and have taken casualties along with the other members of the coalition. The number of troops is, of course, small comapred to the U.S. contribution, but remember that Bulgaria has fewer than eight million people.

On edit: Bulgaria is also donating 42 tons of relief supplies to Iraq.

7. I just hope our side is ready to get on top of this
and control the spin. It's not that big a deal, but this is no time to sit back and take our chances with the corporate media.
