Many still weigh caucus picks

By THOMAS BEAUMONT
Register Staff Writer

Just because Winnie Williams joined 300 Polk County Democrats at a rally Tuesday for presidential candidate John Edwards doesn't mean Edwards will be her choice.

The Urbandale real estate agent said she would consider supporting Edwards, a first-term North Carolina senator, in the leadoff caucuses next Monday. In fact, she was impressed with his performance at a West Des Moines senior center. But she said she also had her eye on Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry.

"It's not over until the fat lady sings, and I don't think she's made up her mind yet," said Williams.

1. Crowds and public adulation do not a vote make.
The only thing that counts is the vote. The rest is just hype. And not one vote has been cast there.
