This story is big if true.
Josh Marshall reports that there were 350 TONS of very high explosives stored in Iraq under the auspices of the IAEA when we went to war. It was all looted, and the US covered up the looting. This stuff, in addition to being great for car bombs and such, is also used to trigger nukes. DO YOU FEEL SAFER?

2. This story is different from the last week's one about the looted nukes

Fortunately, the US has plenty more explosives to drop onto Iraqis and Halliburton has specialists in repairing blown up oil pipelines, so America can be safe.

It's on the NYT front page.
Many are saying that this is the nail in Bush's coffin, proving that his lack of after-war planning is getting our soldiers killed. While we ran-over to guard the oil ministry, we left the ammo dump wiiiide open..

Huge Cache of Explosives Vanished From Site in Iraq

By JAMES GLANZ, WILLIAM J. BROAD and DAVID E. SANGER
Published: October 25, 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct. 24 - The Iraqi interim government has warned the United States and international nuclear inspectors that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives - used to demolish buildings, produce missile warheads and detonate nuclear weapons - are missing from one of Iraq's most sensitive former military installations.

The huge facility, called Al Qaqaa, was supposed to be under American military control but is now a no-man's land, still picked over by looters as recently as Saturday. United Nations weapons inspectors had monitored the explosives for many years, but White House and Pentagon officials acknowledge that the explosives vanished after the American invasion last year.

5. It has enough legs to be a NY Times cover story
for tomorrow. This is a dupe, a good one, but duped anyway.
