Disenfranchisement, current attempts to challenge voters in Ohio and Florida largely effect black voters.
In Florida , though the average increase in new voter registration has been 18 percent, new registration among blakc voters has been 36 percent, though this number is a little moer than twice the population growth of the black community in Florida since 2000.
In Ohio Democrats may have outregistered Republicans five fold, with a possible 600,000 new Democrats registered. Republics and are ready to challnge every voter who come into vote in order to create long lines, in order to get democrats to leave, rather than wait. Hopefully the Democrats will get the courts to prohibit such behavior as voter intimidations, or even racial bias.
Though the ratio of voters in Florida has remained close to the same, many of Florida's new democrats are either Black or Hispanic.
In Dade County Democrats registered more than twice as many new Republicans. Democrats Registered almost 60,000 New Democratd while Republicans Registered a little over 29,000.
In Broward, Democrats Registered over 77,000 New Voters while Reublicans Registered a little over 16,000 New Voters.
Palm Beach ground zero of the 2000 election Registered over 34,000 voters while New Republicans number about 2,200.
Large percentages of the new voters in these counties were minorities, in particular black voters angry about their disenfranchisement in 2000.
I certainly HOPE democrats will play the race card regarding attempts to challenge newly registered voters this year.
Even in Arizona, early estimated indicate a 21 percent increase in new voters registrations and there is much that indicates that this is largely new registration among Democrats. There may be an unexpected surprise coming out of Arizona next week. And there may be more attempts to repress that vote.
