Just got the Flu Shot Shortage email from my BOSS!
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 07:38 PM by funkybutt
You know the one. It basically says that John Edwards is singlehandedly responsible for the shortage of the flu vaccine. I've already posted about receiving this from a relative and i quickly hit "REPLY ALL" and debunked it with the snopes.com link.

In this instance, I'm a bit torn. I have a great boss who happens to be a republican. I have a lot of respect for this man. He doesn't micromanage and he respects me as a professional. I'm not sure if I should delete it like I usually do, or respond politely like I did with my relative.

1. I'd say respond....don't let yourself be bullied.
It's that simple.

3. Ignore it and delete.
Or you can refute it, kindly, to everyone on his mailing list. Do you like your job? :-)

5. I agree.
I just had a parting of the ways with a second cousin for politely refuting one of her e-mails, which is fine with me. However, disputing an employer is something else -- ignore & delete. :)

4. Tell your boss it is inappropriate to discuss his political views with his
employees (which it is.) Due to his position of power over you, it is tantamount to harrassment. Three topics are off limits in my office:

1.) Religion
2.) Politics
3.) Sex

6. Send him this
With a little note:

Another possibility is that we just haven't made flu vaccine an attractive business opportunity. As prices rise, more companies will naturally want to make flu vaccine and then we will have plenty. Although, I haven't quite figured out what the people who can't afford it will do, but I'm sure they'll think of something.

8. Your boss probably works for somebody too.
Print it out, and send it to your boss's boss.

9. Just reply with this:
"These made-up political email stories, like most modern folklore, usually contain pointers to their own logical implosion.

Chiron is an American company, not a British company. (That's easy to look up.) The whole made-up story falls apart when you realize Chiron isn't American. Can anyone seriously believe that an American company can have a different US liability profile for drugs made to be sold in the US by manufacturing the drugs in England? A little thought will reveal the answer, which is no. Corporate liability is not a function of locale of manufacture."

10. You are not going to change his mind. AND don't spam back
I would have left it alone. You are not going to change his vote at this point. This election is already too tense for many. He spammed a bunch of people already. I would have not spammed back.

This election is pretty much set in stone already. Kerry is going to win. I would cut the emotional losses and not escalate the tension in the office at this point.

11. I vote for doing a reply all
with a lead in that starts out with Chiron is an American company, then a link to Snopes.

I do not believe this kind of misinformation should be allowed to circulate unchallenged.

Silence implies assent. Don't be silently assenting to lies.
