1. And more to the point,
they fear voters in record numbers exercising their rights on 11/2.

2. Someone not in control of their lives.
For all their Constitution talk, freedom talk, personal liberty talk, conservatives need someone from on high to tell them how to live their lives. They can't handle freedom, personal choice, personal responsibility and consequences of their own decisions. They need dictatorship and fascism.

Sorry, but I'm in a pissed off mood today.

9. I think its worse than that
I have a good friend I've been playing music with for 20 yrs on and off. Over that time I've really gotten a good view into his mindset and what prompts an otherwise nice guy to listen to Rush and Hannity every day and actually believe everything they say. These people don't believe THEY need fascism.......they believe YOU(libruls) need it.

People like him think we are misguided and naive and in their happier moments they will agree that we have a right to our view but when push comes to shove, they can excuse cheating, bullying, and other fascist crap at election time because they honestly believe their ideas will save us all and our ideas will result in their destruction. Its really quite scary.

I met him at the local newspaper where we both worked at the time. Its a solid union shop, good pay, good benefits. It didn't take me long to figure out that the only reason they took good care of us was the union, which earned that good pay and benefits through their struggles. I went on to become a shop steward and very active in the union. He went on to become a big Rush and Hannity fan, even though without his union job he wouldn't be getting paid anything near what he is now for basically unskilled work. Thats gratitude for ya.

But I don't blame him, or blame Rush, or Bush, or anyone else.....
I blame us. We must not be getting our message across very well when almost half of union workers vote for the anti-union party. We must not be getting our message across very well when religious people support the party of the rich and say screw the poor. We must not be getting our message across very well when polls show most people want clean air , clean water, health care, a sane foreign policy, a sound economic policy, etc, etc, etc ....but 40-50% of people are gonna vote for a freaking shrub.

So this year while trolling the pool of voters for democratic nibbles, I've been stressing the basics. Why do we even have medical benefits? Democrats. Why do we have Social Security? Democrats. Medicare? Democrats. Clean air/water laws? Democrats. Civil rights? Democrats. What do republicans give us? Fear, deficits, war, the rich get richer, polluters run wild.

5. What they fear the most?????
If peace should actually break out. For all their warm cozy talk about freedom, liberty etc, what they are really talking about is war. Peace is the one thing they fear the most. Peace is the one thing they abhor.

6. Peace means there is no one left to hate.
And conservatives need hate to give meaning to justify their war mongering ideology.

8. Not being superior to the rest of the world.
If everyone else is okay, that means we aren't god's annointed. Conservatives fear that--they have no idea of equality.

10. The conservatives fear ethnic minorities voting in particular
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 02:12 PM by The_Enlightenment
The fact there are African-Americans scares the crap out of your average conservative. The fact that African-Americans wish to vote enrages them to utter extremes. Deep-down your conservative still will not let go of their American ideal as a "white man's country". In their minds, everyone else is an outsider who is of dubious loyalty to the country.

To the low-income conservative, it's especially difficult to cope when they come across African-Americans who are successful - and so they go into a self-indulgent spiral blaming others for their own failures. Being white once gave them an aura of superiority, they had that one thing over the African Americans. It's harder to sustain that nowdays. Instead they react like they (conservative white men) are the oppressed minority.
