Poll: Kerry and Bush in dead heat in Pa.Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA - With just days to go until the election, Pennsylvania voters remain evenly split in their support for President Bush and Democrat John Kerry, according to a new poll conducted by The Morning Call of Allentown and Muhlenberg College.
The poll of 787 registered voters found 48 percent intended to vote for Kerry, while 46 percent supported Bush. The two-point difference was within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
"The battle for Pennsylvania's electoral votes remains close," said the poll's director, Muhlenberg professor Christopher Borick. "Kerry is drawing strength from those who are disappointed by the state of Pennsylvania's economy, while Bush's re-election bid is buoyed by his high ratings on terrorism."
The two campaigns consider Pennsylvania one of the key battleground states in the election, and both Bush and Kerry have planned visits to the state next week in a last attempt to energize supporters and take a last crack at winning over the dwindling number of voters who have yet to make a decision about whom to support.
The survey took place between Oct. 17 and Oct. 22.
