My "Shut them Down on Security" Question aka "Quit Being Stupid!"
I have used this technique successfully now on three different * supporters, and its working beautifully. Their heads start spinning, their brains start smoking, and even better -- THEIR MOUTHS CLOSE!!! Try it for yourself!

The Set Up: I start by pointing out that * was responsible for the failures that led to 9/11 with the evidence found in the CRS report (1) which says he DISMANTLED OUR EXISTING ANTI-TERRORISM SYSTEMS in February 2001, and the only reason we haven't had an attack since is because they reinstalled the "old" system on September 12th.

Then I point out * received a briefing entitled "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US" on August 6, 2001 but since he and his upper staff spent the entire month on vacation, NO ONE DID ANYTHING except on September 10, 2001 when they were trying to cut the anti-terrorism budget.

The Closer: "But I'll play along," I say to them. "You tell me what he did so differently on September 12, 2001 that made us safer under him that he WASN'T doing on September 10, 2001? Or how about on September 13? Or the 14th? Just give me a DATE when you think we suddenly became 'safer' under this administration, and explain to me WHY he wasn't ALREADY DOING IT ON SEPTEMBER 10th!"

BOOM! Heads explode! Responsibility Pinned! It Is So Much Fun!!!

(1) CRS Report for Congress on "Terrorism and the Military's Role in Domestic Crisis Management" http://www.fas.org/irp/crs/RL30938.pdf page 6: "President George W. Bush recently signed National Security Presidential Directive-1 (NSPD-1) establishing the organization of the National Security Council under his Administration. Among other things, the document abolishes the previous system of interagency working groups and replaces them with policy coordination committees (PCC)."

1. bush was on a month long vacation when he got that PDB.
That's the pre 9/11 mindset. Stop the flying the Predator drone, cut anti-terrorism, have cheney head an anti-terrorism task force and never meet, ashcroft cuts terroism funding on 9/10, refuse to listen to Richard Clarke, not deal with the USS Cole bombing. This is the real pre-9/11 mindset.

2. You're right about heads exploding
I've been using a similar tactic for two years, now.
Problem is that most Shrubbies either don't believe you when you point out the realities to them (that Maryland survey redux) or they simply don't want to think and keep spouting GOP talking points.

This does, however, work on undecides and Dem leaners. They want a reason to vote for Kerry because, deep down, they know something smells in Bushdom, but until receiving this information (because they don't from mainstream media), they couldn't put their finger on it.
