Why Bush will lose
I live in the most republican county in GA. Three of my friends and business associates are usually republican. They will be voting for Kerry this year. Somehow these people are not being caught in the polls. We are all in the target age of 40-50. If Bush loses these people he loses the election

2. Thanks I love waking up to good news!
I also have a very conservative coworker who was all Bush until after the first debate. He said that was his first opportunity to hear Kerry and that he had some good ideas and thought Bush was embarrassing! Also have a close very catholic friend who is voting Kerry because no WMDs in Iraq!

7. * was so totally outclassed
in that first debate that for a second I felt sorry for him, but only for a second! I hate to think what other blunder he'll commit if he gets back in.

8. keep it coming
I coach baseball and I'm coaching against the former head of the democratic party of my county today in the playoffs. We are quietly optimistic. By the way I play golf with these guys every week

9. Fundies, Fundies, Fundies
There just aren't enough rational, economic conservatives to push the state blue, imho. I loved hearing the anecdote, and I hope I'm wrong, of course, but the majority of Shrub's support here in GA comes from the religious base.

Let's face it. The number of folks who benefited from the Bush tax cuts is very small. They might be his "base," but his "votes" come from the irrational right, those that Suskind says are not part of the reality-based community.

btw, if you haven't read Ron Suskind's New York Times Magazine article, "Beyond a Doubt," you should. It explains a lot about our opposition. If you don't want to give NYT Mag. your e-mail address, the text of the article can be found HERE. It's the second entry in that thread.

Kerry on!

11. you are correct
while Atlanta is less fundy and therefore much more liberal (which is why I live in Midtown), the rest of georgia is full of ignorant rednecks that let their phony religion cloud their judgement

12. While I agree with your sentiments ...
more or less, in all fairness to the state, Democrats do get quite a few votes from outside of Atlanta. Bibb county (my home--Macon), for example, regularly supports Democrats.

Here's a map of which GA counties voted for Gore (red) and which voted for Bush (blue) in 2000.

Interesting that all of Georgia's urban counties went democratic in 2000 except for Chatham. What's up with those folks in Savannah?
