Vatican decides that John Kerry is "not a heritic"
Thursday, October 21, 2004

BOSTON- The Roman Catholic Church's official news service has quoted an unnamed Vatican official as saying that John Kerry is "not a heretic" for his stance on abortion rights.

The article by the Catholic News Service also quoted an unnamed Vatican official saying that Kerry was not about to be excommunicated because "you can incur excommunication" automatically "only if you procure or perform an abortion."

3. Let's face it: worse than anything else..
The Vatican theocratic powers-that-be want a Catholic elected president again!:eyes:

Having a right-wing, bloodthirsty Fundie as pResident ultimately does them no good.

B-)

4. Ok.
So what is the Church going to do about all those Catholics (clerics among them) running around saying otherwise?

9. I'm glad to hear it but....
Those of us who are Catholic and voting for Kerry are still sinners according to the archbishop of St. Louis. That guy is a nut job.

12. Welcome to DU and please see this link

htttp://www.votingcatholic.org

Great information there.

It seems to me that Archbishop Burke is deliberately trying to provoke a confrontation with Church leadership, maybe the pope himself, claming to be more Catholic than the pope.

:hi:

15. Thanks for that info
I took the quiz and my results are mostly in line with Kerry and somewhat with the Bishops; however my results are completely oposite of Bush's beliefs. I knew that before taking the quiz.

Thats very helpful info.

10. Excommunicate Bush.
I am a Methodist wish we could excommunicate Bush. He really avoids the Methodist Bishops.

11. The headline's misleading because it suggests they changed their minds,

at the Vatican, or just made a new decision -- about something that was already decided and that they've already spoken about. A better headline would be "Listen up, you dumb Americans, how many time do we have to go over this?!"

Bishops have a lot of power, but some of these guys are doing a classic middle manager move, trying to assert their power against what the main office has said.

Catholics should read

http://www. votingcatholic.org

and take the political quiz. If you support the teachings of the Catholic Church, as explained in the American bishops' words, you won't support much of what Bush* has done or wants to do. Some bishops obviously need to take this quiz!

14. Hi raised, non practicing catholic
This issue wasn't gonna sway one way or another anyway , but reading the thread it does kinda hit my hot button issue of seperation of church and state which Bush (fill in the blanks). They should be gently reminded of just why they have that tax exempt status. Seems like abortion issue is subordinate to that. Any talk of ex-communication should only be coming out of the Popes mouth anyway. . Not some smansy pants bishop. He needs a smack down.
