Please DU this poll. Daschle vs. Thune.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 06:06 PM by bleowheels
Whether you like Daschle or not, we need him to win. For the past two days he was ahead 70 to 30 percent. Now he's behind by about that margin. The poll must've been freeped. The poll is half way down on the left side.

Thanks to all of you who participate. I live here in South Dakota and Thune will do and say anything to get elected. I cannot stand him. His ads state "It's time" as if he has been some great incredible "leader in waiting" and now it's time to elect him to the senate. When in all honesty he is a smug, arrogant, insufferable former congressman who was handpicked by * to run against Daschle even though he lost to Tim Johnson two years ago.

2. That poll..
That poll should be kicked up later tonight for the grave shift.. If you look at the number of people who've voted, it's really not that many.

We should be able to handle that one.. Maybe we should knock it over to some other Dem sites as well?

9. i'd say their audience is "freeped"
I'm guessing not a lot of non-mouthbreathers are hanging out at the website of the radio home of Neil Bortz, O'Reilly and Dr. Laura

7. um ok...
Explain to me how you expect us to believe that Daschle was up by 40 points the past two days and now is behind by 40 points. I mean i know Daschle can be dull sometimes, well all the time, but i doubt he is going to lose an 80 point swing in less than 24 hours for anything short of murdering a child in public.

Also what do you expect everyone who isn't in South Dakota to do? we cant exactly influence that race much.

11. This poll was started on Monday and for two days the voting ...
percentages remained unchanged. About 150 votes were cast each day. Now today all of a sudden 600 votes appear. I don't think so! Obviously a republican site is linking to the poll. And its only fair that we do the same.

As for the answer to your second question, i realize that someone who isn't from here cannot really influence the race. However, this race is tied according to the polls and for us Democrats here in SD, we need everyone here to get out and vote. After one week, this poll is read on the air. If Joe Sixpack is thinking about voting for Daschle but is lazy and hears that Thune won this poll by 40 percent, maybe he stays home. Bush will win SD easily and Democrats don't have too many reasons beside Daschle and Rep Herseth to make a difference in this election.

14. Why does the poll matter?
Its an online poll. Whats the big deal? Its not like online polls are at all accurate. how can they be when anyone can show up and start voting for oppositing.

Any news organizations citing online polls is just dishonest and lazy. They just cant get off their butts to do some real investigating. however, if youd like me to add my vote to the poll sure.

10. I voted for him with enthusiasm.
Daschle is blamed (unfairly, imo) for all our sense of powerlessness. I'm not at all sure that a snarling, aggressive Tom Daschle in the minority role he is currently forced to accept would accomplish anything much. Might make us all feel better for a moment, I guess.I have to admit a prejudice of sorts.... I was born in North Dakota (not much different from South Dakota) and a bland, nonconfrontational style is really seems to be the way people deal with each other there. I've seen a gentleness in the people of the Dakotas that appeals to me, and I nurse the notion that if they really got good info out there on the plains, something more than FOX and religious broadcasting and Dr. Laura for three hours every day (see top of station poll page) --they'd vote in a more liberal direction. Good luck on the poll. I heard a thing on PBS tonight that gave me the impression Daschle may well pull it out one more time-- a big first time Native American vote is predicted to be a help.

think Daschle will win but it could go either way. Thune has saturated the airwaves. Both radio and TV. Tom's ads seem to be alot more infrequent. When Tim Johnson beat Thune two years ago, the native american vote played an important part in that victory. Only 500+ votes seperated the two. After that Democratic victory, the state prosecuted a woman it said provided 4 illegal ballots from a reservation. I saw it more as voter intimidation. Yet when it was found out two weeks ago that Republican operatives were providing illegally signed absentee ballots, the state says "we cannot determine if laws were broken". The hypocrisy runs thick here.

32. I would only say this here in DU
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 09:17 PM by cyr330
I do loathe Tom Daschle, because I feel like he aided and abetted Bush*'s administration early on & helped them pass that asinine tax cut in 2001. Furthermore, he did nothing to stop the "Patriot" Act, and that was the kiss of death. . .

Nonetheless, he IS the Democratic candidate, and I DO want him to win. I would never speak badly of him outside of this forum, because I know that nobdy here would even consider voting for his oppononent!

On edit, I DID vote for him.
