Should I do vote pairing since I am registered to
vote in Mississippi? Is this really legal? I don't want to get into trouble with the law.

5. I beg you pardon. Are you calling me stupid? There
was a long article in the newspaper about vote pairing and how it was the way to help progressives.

She asked a legitimate question and didn't deserve to be called stupid. Thanks.

2. i'd be afraid
they wouldn't vote the way they said. maybe if you have a friend you can trust or a relative it would be safe enough. i'm not sure about the legalities.

3. no- John Kerry needs the popular vote too
someone could lie-
a "nader"(bush) supporter could say-
I'm voting for nader but then vote for bush
you trust everyone you meet online?

4. VOTE for KERRY
Especially if that's who you want. You're more likely to get satisfaction out of it. And you don't even know the person you'd be paired with - how do you know they're not just gonna go ahead and vote Green or Nader anyway?

Besides, don't you want to give Kerry a big popular vote margin?

8. Of course I want Kerry to win in both ways. But I was asking
because I read an article about this. Being in Mississippi I get so frustrated because I know that barring a miracle the electoral votes will go to Bush. Anyway you folks have made me reconsider and I'll just cast my vote for Kerry, end of story. Thanks for your advise (except for the one who called me stupid).

11. That's a wise decision. Unless the person you pair with is
an EXTREMELY trusted friend or relative, I wouldn't do it.

Basically, if they'd step in front of a speeding semi to save your life, then you can safely pair. Anything less, and it's just too risky.

It's a legitimate question, though.

9. I thought it was a good idea in the last election.
I'm not so sure in this one. I tried to convince Naderites in 2000 to do it and they claimed they were too principled to vote for anyone but Nader. It's a little hard to believe they'll have changed their position this time around. I'm not sure Dems and Naderites make for good trading partners. Too much distrust on both sides, and for good reason on one side, at least.

12. Your vote is sacred....don't pimp it
Beside, do you REALLY expect the Nader voter to really vote Kerry? They should vote for Kerry to stop 4 Supreme Court justices to be appointed by Bush. If they can't be persuaded by 20+ years of a Bush court, then they are hopeless. Also, if it turns out that Kerry wins the electoral vote, but loses the popular vote, this won't be good. So vote Kerry, whether or not your state does.

13. In 2000? I wanted to wean Battle-ground Naderites off Nader's teat.
No could do. It wasn't that I wanted to help Nader, though, then or now.

14. Why not? Mississippi isn't going for Kerry.
I came close to voting for Dave Cobb myself, but held my nose and voted for Kerry because Washington is likely to go for Kerry, but still a chance for Bush. I was able to vote for a couple of Greens on my ballot.

Of course the DLC brigade here is afraid of anyone pairing and giving strength to progressives.

16. Safe state voters "swapping" votes with swing staters.
For instance, an Ohio Nader voter pledging to vote for Kerry if a California Kerry voter votes for Nader.

17. this should make it clear it's a scam
From News Radio 1370: http://www.wspd.com/bobf2.html

"1. Set up a few bogus email accounts on Yahoo or Hotmail. Make up names if you'd like.
2. Go to www.VotePair.org .
3. Select a swing state such as Florida or Pennsylvania where Nader is on the ballot.
4. Select "Nader" as your first choice for President.
5. Enter your name and email address so they can pair you with a Kerry supporter in a "safe state."
7. Confirm your agreement to vote for Kerry in your swing state via the email they send to your account while he agrees to vote for Nader in his safe state.
8. Print your confirmation email.
9. Take your printed email into your bathroom and use it as a substitute for your Charmin.
10. Go to your precinct on November 2nd and vote for George W. Bush.
11. Feel proud that you helped stop voter fraud in the United States of America!"

19. How hypocrites...

Can they be any more self-contradictory and hypocritical? They fight supposed voter fraud by committing outrageous moral and electoral fraud themselves. Losers.

20. The problem is, Ralph Nader is no longer a progressive
He's an egomaniac who can't bear criticism or thinking he has done anything wrong or that anything that has gone kerflooey in the past four years is in any way his fault.

Remind you of someone?
