Clinton to Campaign for Kerry in Philadelphia

October 19, 2004 — Former President Clinton will campaign for Sen. John Kerry early next week in Philadelphia, a senior Democratic official who is familiar with the former president's plans said Tuesday.

It was unclear whether Kerry would be there, too. But Clinton, who is recovering from heart surgery, has agreed to the appearance for his fellow Democrat, who is locked in a tight race against President Bush, the official said.

Kerry's campaign also has outlined for Clinton other ways he can help rally voters and participate in the last two weeks of the presidential campaign, including visits to battleground states.

"There has been some discussion with the former president about things that will be great for him to do," said Kerry adviser Mike McCurry. "We're hoping that something will be able to come together."

McCurry, who served as White House press secretary under Clinton, said the campaign hopes to hear back in time to plan events before Election Day, Nov. 2. The proposal, subject to approval by Clinton and his doctors, includes a combination of solo events and joint appearances with Kerry, McCurry said.

4. Damn.
I wish this would've been a surprise. Kerry could have announced that he had a "major campaign speech," and then Clinton could've walked out onto the stage with him..

With it being a surprise, the media would've latched-onto this and ran with it for a good 36 hours.

3. Shit! Isn't Philly a Democratic town? Is this really a necessary place
to? Are there other places in PA that would be more useful?

This makes me a bit nervous...for him........and for PA, if they feel they have to put him there....

5. I think it's mostly a GotV deal. If you get everyone in Philadelphia to
vote, you have a really good chance of carrying the state.

That's just my thought, though.

Personally I'D SEND HIM TO ARKANSAS AND FLORIDA!!

But maybe having him in PA will secure the state so Kerry and Edwards can concentrate elsewhere. Kerry NEEDS PA.

8. Damned right - Arkansas and Fla for Bill
I think he could deliver Ar all by himself and am assuming he must still be hurting or he'd be there already.

6. Trust me here
You win Philly and the surrounding suburbs and you win PA. And people LOVE Bill in Philly, you would not believe. Its a good move to lock that vote down.

7. It's a fair;y short trip to Pa. especially Phillly.
I don't think Bill will do anything he doesn't believe he can.

I know each person is different, but, my husband had this came surgery 14 years ago, and he was back to work in 4 weeks. BTW, he doesn't have a desk job either. He's a meat cutter, and on his feet all day.

9. Steady As She Goes...
First, remember Bill's recovering in New York and this will be a test as to how strong he is.

There was a string here recently saying that Bill and Hillary have been very involved with the Kerry campaign...through McCurry & Joe Lockhart, as well as providing a lot of help to Senate campaign. Word is Bill's recovered very quickly and is spoiling to get some vindication in bringing down this regime.

No matter where Clinton shows, he'll get the media and it will "suck the air out" of whatever crap is going on. Methinks the Kerry campaign is using their Clinton card carefully...they'll put the two together when this regime tries to dominate the news cycle with another Mary Chenney or other diversion.

The worm has turned...we're in control of this game now.
