This is scary: BC04 planning to steal New Jersey?
Good to get this kind of paranoia out into the discourse before Election Day.

CNN TELESCREEN FOCUSES ON URBAN, BLACK BUSH "VOTERS"

Is it just paranoia or is CNN trying to spread a false theme that Blacks are turning to Bush?

Schnieder came on and claimed there was a trend to Bush among urban voters. Then there was this thing, for like a half an hour, literally, between two Black columnists. As if it's a legitimate debate as to who African Americans support. Then there is the focus on South NJ (Philly media market) by the Resident today and the attempt in Philly to move polling places at the last minute.

All this is very creepy. Are we going to see a massive fraud perpetrated where NJ makes an amazing "shift" to Bush on Election Day and it's chalked up to changing Black preference and a late NJ effort by Bush? They have the recipe to justify a phony NJ victory - McGreevy and "9/11 proximity" included.

1. It's Just Not Going to Work This Time
Bush is desperate and is wasting his time on states like NJ.

Four years ago, Bush spent the last week in places like NJ and CA trying to create the impression of inevitability but just wasting his time. Gore allocated his time wisely and won all the key swing states. I think this time will be the same.

2. actually -- the ever-reliable (??) rumor mill has it that
I heard on TV somewhere (sorry -- can't remember) a pol speculating that this is a diversionary tactic on the part of the Ws -- hoping that Kerry will think he has to show up and get him out of the real battleground states.

3. That was Rove's strategy in CA 4 years ago
And as Matthew Yglesias pointed out today, it didn't work, and in fact almost backfired by keeping Bush from running up bigger vote totals elsewhere.

I'm not saying Bush is going to win NJ. I don't think he will. But then, I cannot understand why he is still even in this race anywhere, so what do I know?

13. He's only in the race because
the SCLM are keeping him in the race. The media and the so-called pollsters are enabling this fiction. I honestly doubt it is even close. But they will definitely try to steal it, so we can't let up. Frustating, isn't it?! :grr:

11. HAH - per CNN, Repugs just ADMITTED it!!!!!
Per CNN, Republicans just ADMITTED that they were essentially "taunting" the Kerry campaign, hoping to force them to spend money and time in New Jersey !!!

6. Remember, the post I quoted above is not about
Bush actually legitimately winning NJ, but about the Republicans laying plans for a massive fraud to steal the state.

7. Bush's gamble
The GOP wouldn't be in NJ if they didn't think they had at least a shot at winning those 15 EVs. And they love the fact that NJ shares its media market w/ Philadelphia. For them, NJ is a tipping point. And if it doesn't work out, Bush's campaign will HAVE to rely on dirty tricks -- which are already underway.

Stay strong, NJ!!

12. No, they aren't there for that reason
It's a Rovian ploy. He did the same thing in 2000, and Gore won NJ by 16 points.

14. They did the same thing in CA in 2000 and they knew they didn't have
a prayer in that state. It isn't about reality, it's about public perception. And it ain't gonna work this time! ;)

8. I live in NJ, and I can tell you we are by no means "up for grabs".
The number of Kerry supporters and Kerry-related signs/posters/stickers I see here, even in the richest (and most Republican) county of NJ, dwarfs the Bush-related material. I'd say that roughly 20% of people my age (25) that I know personally voted in the last Presidential election. They are ALL voting in this one, for Kerry. We're going to keep the word out and keep the pressure on, don't get me wrong. But I just can't see Bush legally taking NJ, and the polls that show NJ in a dead heat are NOT representative of what I see in person.

16. heard from commentator today
That it's part of their "all effort to resist is futile" strategy. The commentator said they did it last year, too, as posters on this thread have remarked.

I think this blurb is nowhere near the truth, although I am in north Jersey, not south, where he is appearing. I teach classes in Elizabeth and Newark, however, and have contact with urban residents, including many African Americans students, and I have seen nothing, zip, zilch, zero, to indicate they would vote for bush.

18. Bush doesn't have any support in Chicago.
I've worked for the last two decades in an inner-city 95% poverty rate, 100% African American public school on the southside of Chicago. I have not heard one African American student, parent, teacher or administrator indicate anything but absolute scorn for Bush and his policies, and believe me I keep my ear to the ground on this. People that live in the innercities of America have really been dumped on these last four years. The only way they go Republican is if they have personally been bought out.

19. McGreevey not doing Kerry any favors
I think we'll still win here but the Republicans are much better organized.

I'm not entirely certain this is true but I was told by an old time Democrat activist that McGreevey's only released a small part of the party's warchest.

Kind of scary considering what's at stake.
