Republican Judge Valeria Adair
To the editor:
Yesterday (10/15/04), Judge Valerie Adair "denied the Democratic Party's request to reopen voter registration to voters whose forms might have been destroyed by a Republican-backed organization" (LV RJ, 10/15/04). Although the office of District Judge is designated nonpartisan, Judge Valeria Adair is listed as a member of the "National Federation of Republican Women"
http://www.nfrw.org/republicans/women/17.htm#NEVADA. One of the stated purposes of the "National Federation of Republican Woman" is to "strengthen our Republican Party" (from their NFRW website). Perhaps Republican Judge Adair used her nonpartisan office of District Judge to help to "strengthen" the Republican Party by denying the vote to Democratic voters.
Aiding Judge Adair is "Nevada Voters Outreach of America" AKA "America Votes" whose workers and supervisors destroyed Democratic voter registration forms.
"Voters Outreach of America" AKA "America Votes" is being operated by Arizona based "Sproul & Associates," a GOP consulting firm. Sproul's firm received $125,000 this year from the Republican National Committee for voter registration and another $500,000 for "political consulting." The Republican National Committee acknowledges that it hired "Voters Outreach of America" to register voters. "Voters Outreach of America" is currently operating in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Florida and Nevada and is accused of the same types of practices in most if not all of these states. A few are listed below.
In West Virginia and Pennsylvania "Sproul & Associates" AKA "America Votes" workers refuse to register Kerry voters. In West Virginia, "Voter Outreach of America" employees say they were instructed to mislead voters into registering Republican and voting for Bush
In Oregon canvassers for Arizona based "Sproul & Associates" have been pressuring residents to register as Republicans so that they can get paid.
"Our job was to register as many Republicans as we could," said Sproul, whose company received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the GOP. A Voters Outreach employee in Arizona reports a female supervisor announced, "You guys have been bringing in Democrats. We told you not to. This time we're going to dock your pay." (The Arizona Republic, 10/15/04).
The right to vote is guaranteed in the United States Constitution. What other constitutional rights will the Republican Party deny law abiding citizens of the United States?
