This person was pro-kerry/anti-bush especially when it came to the war. But I also knew this person to have strong Christian Faith (which is NOT an issue, I'm a Christian too so if you bad mouth this person you bad mouth me).
But today a comment made my jaw drop - that this person might not vote for Kerry because of the Stem Cell issue and how we could be harvesting & then killing babies for stem Cell research.
Fortunately I was able to quick google information about stem cell research, about the vast number of embryos that never get used because of IVF and how such notable people like Christopher Reeves, Michael J. Fox, Nancy & Ron Reagan Jr were all big supporters of this technology. Finally the cute factor - my 7 year old niece is diabetic and has a difficult road ahead of her but this technology could make the difference.
But after a brief discussion about stem cells I then moved on to "Wedge Issues" and how Bush is using those to peel voters off. About how Partial-Birth Abortions is a fake issue because no one gets them except women in serious condition that she may have no choice. And a reminder that a vote on a wedge issue could also end up being a vote for something more serious like a continuation of this war (this person is very much against the war) and the economy (which we're all affected by).
I hate how Bush uses wedge issues to try and paint kerry as some warped individual and frighten voters over some really minor issue versus the real problem which is a war without end and an economy going worse.
