CNN stooge just called Bush one of the "3 or 4 greatest politicians....."
in the last fifty years." and I quote from tape

some total jackass named Carlos Watson said this to Leslie a few minutes ago.....

he has to WIN this election, of course, for this to be true

he said it in context of this being a classic election either way, saying that Bush will have won three historic elections in ten years, his first one in Texas, the one in 2000 (he didn't WIN that one, btw), and this one.

he also displayed an electoral map that has Bush with 301 votes, including those of Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Virginia, N Carolina, Utah....EVERY swing state, really, seeing as how MN, PA, and MI look blue at this point.

I must stop watching this drool

1. Have to agree. (since I am in Texas). He is certainly not a good person,
or a good leader or a good speaker so to get to where he is today, he must be a great politician, in the worse sense of the word.

3. In defense of Carlos...
he then went on to say if Kerry wins, he will be one of the gratest politicans by being down and out before Iowa in January and then ahead of a sitting President. Taken in full context, the statements by carlos were fair as he stated that either man will make history because of the times.

15. nice try, but I have the tape, and he, in addition to being a Bushwhore
is just hyping his own bogus story here

that CNN red/blue map is a total joke, and they're just playing at being nonpartisan with that Kerry stuff tossed in

he was beside himself with joy at the Bush hyperbole

Bush has NEVER been anything but a lazy, dimwitted buffoon; a fricking PARASITE, benefitting from the labor, largesse, and influence of others, based ONLY upon his LAST name.

ANYbody who EVER tries to say anything different is either a LIAR, or as big a stooge as Carlos Watson apparently is

please....."three or four greatest politicians in the last fifty YEARS?"

that's among the three or four most ASININE political analyses I've heard in my ENTIRE life!!!!

8. Carlos
Carlos said that "if" Bush were to win this election, he would likely be "perceived" as one of the 3 or 4 greatest politicians - because he would have won his first attempt at his run for Governor in Tx, as well as both runs for President.

He also gave Kerry quite a few kudos.

I dunno.. I didn't hear it quite the same as you did.. Carlos is sometimes very confusing in his analysis, and he's very often WRONG.. but remember-- he is a Democrat.

I think he was just saying .."if Bush pulls this off"... (etc..)

... looking at his bio on CNN, he has worked for a number of Democratic politicians, though he did work for a Republican Mayor of Miami.

22. I listened to the same snippet, but I didn't tape it
And I recall him saying that *if* Bush wins this election, then he would be one of the three or four. He went on to contrast it with what it would mean *if* Kerry won.

It isn't very useful to attack people who don't happen to have a tape recorder handy. I remember it differently than you've posted it. I'd have to see a transcript.

cause I capitalized it?

sorry, but you ARE wrong

going through the tape right now

that bit got me so MAD that I became a bit unhinged, and didn't bother to be fair, with not mentioning kerry's dramatic comeback

now: let's go to the tape.....and I quote

"If President Bush wins, um uh, you'll have to say that he's one of the three or four greatest politicians of the last fifty years."

Carlos the Jackass said, ''you'll HAVE to say,'' not ''perceived.''

THAT's what pissed me off so much. not to mention that the little shitheel has NOTHING to do with his own 'success,' that being based solely on his family name and the willing complicity of a totall corrupt media

again, sorry if you feel attacked

26. you're right about that, and I was so hot to get this up that I didn't
phrase the header very well

when I said he has to win the election for this to happen, I should have included the "if he wins" part in the quote

the FACT remains that for ANYone to make a statement as ridiculous as that, is clear evidence that he's not a serious student of either Bush, Rove, OR the media, so why on earth is such an ignoramus given the opportunity to spew such useless twaddle

Jon Stewart is right again: these people are a POX on democracy

11. How about Democrats being pathetic and weak during Bush's time?
The Democratic Party, if they had any strength, willingness to fight, or decent strategy, would have won the 2000 election.

The 2004 election is another one that we have allowed to become a close race because Kerry's pathetic advisors decided to run a worthless "positive' campaign for most of this year - wasting much of his money on bullshit that didn't stick.

Add the right wing control of the media and a puppet or a rock would win in Bush's place.

What we have seen is a failure of the Democrats more than a victory Bush.

Our party is not able to put together a winning strategy and they aren't willing to fight as hard and dirty as is needed.

Hopefully Kerry will win this, but whether or not he does, the Democratic Party needs to be rebuilt.

Tom Daschle should be the first one to step down from leadership once the election is over - the fact that he still has a leadership position after the 2002 election and his non-leadership during Bush's term says a lot.

If you read Carlos' weekly political briefing, he also predicted that when "Google" went public, it could be so BIG that it could bring back the DOT.com days of Clinton and have a hugely positive effect on Bush.

He's a good guy... He IS a Democrat.. But he unfortunately gets stuff WRONG all the time...

21. I would have to agree
Lets look at the facts, He was a two term Governor of a state where the Lt.Governor has more power then the Governor. He was appointed president of the United States after receiving the short end of the stick in the popular vote and the state that put him over the top in the electoral college was riddled with voter irregularities and possible voter disenfranchisement. So we can see why they are saying this.

27. I agree completely with Carlos Watson.
Bush is a master politician -- due primarily to his handlers and advisors, like Karen Hughes and Karl Rove.

Please don't confuse great "politician" with great leader, president, or person.

Besides, as most people think poorly of politicians in general, this is NOT an endorsement of Bush at all.

(Damn, I'm really starting to hate the reactionary threads/posts on this forum. Carlos Watson is one of the best things CNN has going for it -- he's always fair, always smart -- yet he calls Bush an excellent politician, which he IS, and suddenly he's Media Villian #1)

29. always SMART????
that was the STUPIDEST thing I've heard in a long time

you're correct about tbe first line, except you switched the names: Bush is a PUPPET!

he can barely FUNCTION without a script

the ONLY reason he's perceived as anything but a moronic foil for the interests of those who control him is a totally corrupt media

and to suggest anything else is to miss the point completely

Carlos Watson is either too stupid to have a job in media, or a whore of the highest/lowest order

take your pick...then, again, ALL TV figures (including Dem surrogates, who don't have the guts to say it, cause they'd never get back on TV again) are either one or the other, because they refuse to come to grips with the reality that Bush is nothing but an Emperor without any clothes

THAT should be the story, but it's NEVER EVER mentioned

but you can keep drinking the koolaid all you want

31. Bush stole the election
This whole thesis is predicated on the idea that if he pulls out another "win" in a insanely tight race, he is some master politician.

Thing is, he stole one, and if he wins again, it may be stolen has well.

I think this makes him one of the great Traitors to Democracy, rather than one of it's "Greatest Politians", myself.

35. Carlos Watson is terrific
He instantly isolates the most relevant factors better than any cable analyst today. Not even close. For example, immediately after the VP debate and the second presidential debate, Watson did not waffle at all, saying Edwards and Kerry did a much better job connecting with undecideds and that was the decisive influence, regardless of poll results regarding who won the debate.

Watson's the only analyst who frequently brings up interesting angles that I do not hear elsewhere. His interviews with undecided voters are always balanced and informative, with intelligent and creative questions that allow average Joes and Janes to open up. Watson lets them speak without being pushy. Plus he listens well and asks intelligent follow-ups, not a programmed "second question on my list."

I saw tonight's analysis. It was completely based on the unlikelihood of winning the three campaigns, no praise of anything Bush has done in office. The word politician may be what you are objecting to. If Watson had said campaigner, I doubt this thread would even exist.

In fact, Watson's report was almost a slap at Bush, implying he wasn't qualified to defeat a sitting popular incumbent governor in Ann Richards, or to overcome Al Gore given the Clinton economy, or to win this year based on his failed record. That would indeed be a remarkable and pathetic trifecta.

My only quarrel with Watson tonight is he failed to mention the overpowering luck factor: Bush won in '94 along with anything else labeled Republican. In any other cycle, he would have lost and probably never sought the presidency. Obviously we remember the fluke 2000 result in Florida. And what would Bush's presidency or this re-election bid look like without 9/11? Minus fear, he has nothing to run on.
