Texas doc has a stroke over Bush's "drooping mouth"

After watching the third presidential debate Wednesday night, Dr. W. Kendall Tongier, M.D. of Dallas, Texas posted on the Dallas Morning News Web site about his concerns that the President may have had a stroke. The anesthesiologist, who has been in practice for 15 years, wrote: "Having watched the first two debates from start to finish, I was looking forward to listening to a spirited debate between Bush and Kerry. Unfortunately, I barely heard a word that was said. Instead, I found myself staring at and concentrating on the President's drooping mouth.

"As a physician and a professor, I tend to pick up on signs and symptoms of physical problems better than most other people. I am highly concerned with what I saw. The drooping left side of the President's face, his mouth and nasolabial fold (the crease in the face running from the nostril to the side of mouth) may be indicative of a recent stroke, TIA (transient ischemic attack)) or, possibly botox injections. I sincerely hope this was nothing more than botox injections. The other options are truly scary given an upcoming election for President in three weeks." In a phone interview, Dr. Tongier stressed that he's not a neurologist, and no doctor can make a diagnosis from a 90-minute debate. But he did explain why he found Bush's face so distracting Wednesday night: "It struck me across the face to the point where I wasn't really listening to the debate. It looked like the left side of his mouth was downturned. You know how he sneers at times. At first I thought that's what it was, but it didn't change when his face was at rest. It changed when he talked, but you'd expect that. It's the loss of muscle tone there that's really kind of concerning. And it was pretty much persistent throughout the entire debate."

1. I always assumed the droopy face was a result of "stupid".

3. I've been asking myself this for days.
Could they really have been that determined to get rid of the smirk? He did look like he might have had a root canal or something, some lengthy dental procedure. Wondered if they might have novocained or Botoxed him to keep the smirk to a minimum and it backfired by working too well.

God, it starts to sound like they're just running full speed ahead and throwing band-aids on anything they perceive to be a problem. No better than they're running their campaign from that perspective, I become increasingly frightened at the ineptitude of the people who are actually running this country.

5. BOTOX so he would not grimace. That 'cowboy' bought a TX PIG RANCH in
Crawford the day before he filed for office. He is not a Texan he is a KENNYBUNKPORT COWBOY.

summer.and that despicable family still "summers" in Kennebunkport for a few weeks a year.

7. Bush always had a crooked face
I watched the Frontline documentary this week and his mouth was just as droopy in his 20s and 30s. If there is any neurological damage, it was done long ago.

Remember the rock star Eddie Money -- didn't half of his face get paralyzed from snorting too much peruvian marching powder?

10. I think his upper left lip and cheek were swollen
forcing down the lower lip and making it appear that it was drooping. I agree with the posts I've seen that it was either a botox or fat injection into the left naso-labial fold or it was novacaine to keep the area numb and remind him not to smirk but to openly smile instead. Then again, maybe it was just a trip to the dentist for dental work. I didn't see signs of droop the next day.

I don't think that lets Bush off the hook, however, as far as apparent physical problems are concerned. The President's behavior, with very different personalities on display in the three different debates was very disturbing, as well as his ticks such as his jaw grinding, his blinking, his side-to-side rapid eye movement in the second debate, his slouching, and his sudden passive-aggressive shifts in mood.
