SBVT liars KNEW the truth 6 MONTHS AGO

And they were aided and abetted by the media.

I watched Nightline last night, and I am outraged.

SWIFT BOAT LIES....

Case in point. In August the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth charged that John Kerry had lied about the events that led to his Silver Star. In order to figure out if the SBVT account was true, Nightline sent a crew to Vietnam, where they visited the hamlets of Tran Thoi and Nha Vi and interviewed the local villagers to get their recollections of what really happened 35 years ago. You can read the resulting story yourself, but it's summarized pretty easily: Kerry was right and SBVT honcho John O'Neill wasn't.

But there was also this:

Back in Tran Thoi, villager Nguyen Van Khoai said that about six months ago he was visited by an American who described himself as a Swift boat veteran and told him another American from the Swift boats was running for president of the United States. Nguyen said the man was accompanied by a cameraman.

"They say he didn't do anything to deserve the medal," Nguyen said. "The other day, they came and asked me the questions and I said that the recognition for the medal is up to the U.S.A."

He said that, after they met, the Swift Boat veteran and the cameraman turned around and went back down the river. Nightline has not been able to identify the men.

Share my thoughts as to the fact they presented excellent, investigative journalism with the segment. I also shared that I thought Ted maintained his composure, no out-n-out laughing at the O'Neill joker.


I think the media just has to take responsibility....something that they, themselves must rise to.....


I wish there was more we could do but we are doing all we can....daily. Money talks in this country......we are on the short side of the buck.....

3. 30+ YEARS they've known

CatWoman, this is the VERY SAME BUNCH that used the VERY SAME LIES to try and discredit Kerry 30+ YEARS ago.

Their lies didn't pass the laugh test then, and they slunk away under their rocks.

Now a new, very much stupider generation of rightwingnuts thinks this is all new and credible.

The Net is a wonderful, unfiltered new way of disseminating information. I just sent this out to a bunch of people, and some of them will send it out again. This story will get into the information pipeline of the Wisconsin vets for Kerry because it was posted here. Actually, if we were all to just get off our butts & work our connections, we could spread stuff into public awareness like wildfire.

8. Actually "they" knew it 32 years ago

John O'Neill knew the truth all those years ago when Tricky Dick Nixon commissioned him to try to destroy John Kerry, whom Nixon recognized then as someone who is credible and in Nixon's own words "very impressive."

John O'Neill apparently will go to his grave being doggedly loyal to the disgraced Nixon, who had to resign for all the ramifications of the abuse of power exemplified by this very type of conduct. O'Neill is trying to win one for Tricky Dick!

It's a disgrace that many Americans appear to have amnesia. Large segments of my generation, the "boomers," absolutely disgust me. We vowed we "would never let it happen again." Yet here we are - Iraqnam and abuse of power all over again.

While I'm at it, I'm not happy with many of my parents generation either. They lived first hand through the devastation of the depresssion, caused in large part by the bogus "trickle down" theories hatched by the Robber Barons and carried out by the Gilded Agers. The tax policies being forced on us all had a really bad reputation when I was young, how the hell did we and our parents let them get resurrected and accepted as legitimate by so many people? And they fought and beat fascism to smithereens, claiming they had thrown it into the dust bin of history, and they vowed never to let it rear it's ugly head again. Yet here we are - many of them will actually vote for escalating the move toward fascism right here on our own soil!

Sorry to get off topic a little there. End of rant.

Where Repugs went snooping around Arkansas trying to dig up dirt on Clinton, or anybody who was willing to *say* something damaging?

I thought THAT was bad!!

Now we have these jokers prowling around Vietnam villages looking for dirt on John Kerry!! Incredible.

Of COURSE the lead swiftliars knew the truth from the start, but I think some of their "members" were simply duped by being told something they wanted to believe. They weren't there, they didn't know anything, they just believed what O'Neill and Hoffman were saying. (Which is why the claim that "200 veterans who served with John Kerry all say..." Not only did they not serve with him, they didn't all SAY anything -- some said, some bought it.)

As I said last night, I only wish Koppel had brought up William Rood and the crew of Kerry's boat, all of whom also confirm the Navy records.

After all, their mission there was to find accomplices and they typically do not give a damn about the facts or what other people have to say anyway. Would they even bother to listen to what some Vietnamese peasants had to say if it didn't support their big lie?
