Clark's Message To Iowa Brown And Black Presidential Forum

Clark's Message To Iowa Brown And Black Presidential Forum

Little Rock, AR - Today, General Clark issued the following statement about the Iowa Brown and Black Presidential Forum:

"I deeply regret that I am unable to attend the Iowa Brown and Black Presidential Forum. But while campaign logistics are keeping me from this forum, nothing will keep me from standing up every day for the issues that matter most to our minority communities and all Americans - jobs, health care, education, and national security. I will always fight to ensure that every American, regardless of race, color, or creed, gets the opportunity to succeed in America. And I will stand up for affirmative action and against discrimination every day that I hold office.

I spent 34 years in the United States Military, where men and women of all races and backgrounds came together to serve under one flag. We believed that our diversity was our greatest strength, and that is exactly the philosophy of inclusion that I will bring to the White House."

Congressman Charlie Rangel also issued a statement about the Forum:

"General Clark's commitment to the African-American community is unwavering. While he's not able to be at the Brown and Black Forum today, I know he's going to stand up every day for the issues that matter most. And that's why he's been my candidate from day one."

Congressman Solomon Ortiz issued a statement as well:

"Wesley Clark is a rare breed, an intellectual and warrior: both are traits this nation desperately needs now. He will be good for Hispanics, with his eye on fairer taxes, more money for education, economic development, creating jobs, and raising family incomes. As a retired general, Wes Clark has a better understanding than most others of the fairness and value of diversity in our armed forces. The U.S. military is the premiere institution in this nation that has instituted equal opportunity for all races and done their level best to base promotions on merit, without racial prejudice."

1. Translation:
I have nothing to say that won't be immediately ripped to shreds by the other candidates, therefor I'll stay home.

4. I would take Clark's record on race up againtst. . .
. . .all the candidates (with the exception of Braun and Sharpton) anyday. I love how everyone is spinning Clark's absence as he is not equipped or was avoiding the debate. You may have noticed no campaigns have attacked him on this (if he were truly weak they would have). He has a campagin to run in New Hampshire.

2. Clark is my candidate, but
I wish he had been able to make it.

Just think how he could have countered the defensive Dean concerning African-American participation: Mary Frances Berry, Coleman, Young, Rangel plus Hispanic and Native American support and upper level campaign workers! Sweet.

Hard to beat Kucinich's line about looking for WMDs on Mars though...gotta hand that one to DK!

5. I assumed he wasnt there because
hes not really campaigning for the iowa caucus.

and anyone who attacks clark for not being there should equally attack dean for stepping in it multiple times last night.

6. I believe you are correct.
I just would have loved to see Clark at what they called a "Brown/Black" debate because he has such a good record.

BTW, I agree with you completely about Dean.

7. Don't understand the support for Clark
Clark is running adds promoting his Vietnam service. Almost all of us Vietnam era guys thought that was was an immoral, stupid war and didn't go. When Clinton ran for President, all the right wing war nuts tried to make an issue out of his avoiding military service. His stand on the war legitimatized that position for all of us who didn't participate in that arrogant use of American military power.

Now along comes Clark rising the issue all over again.

Let Republicans be the war party with all the military heroes.

Dean's position is what the party's position should be.

If we can't get the United Nations to go along with us, just stay at home!

8. Yeah, he regrets it now I'm sure
He didn't draw much of a crowd last night in NH. They expected over twice as many people as actually showed up. I'm sure when Clark was looking at the empty chairs in the audience he was thinking about the debate and the fact he should have been there.

9. 3rd debate skipped in a row...it's sad...
That Wesley Clark can't seem to be bothered to face the other candidates in a public forum.
