WOW! Letter I got back from one of Sinclairs local sponsors.

October 12, 2004

Thank you for your concern regarding the actions of the Sinclair Broadcast Group. We had no prior knowledge of the political stance of SBG and their local affiliate, KMWB23, when we placed our advertising dollars. It is not our intention to support this kind of political indecency. As a result of their insistence in airing "Stolen Hour," we have sent the following letter to the Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Dear Sir/Madam:

As an advertiser on your Minneapolis affiliate, KB23, we are appalled at Sinclair Broadcasting Group's lack of corporate citizenship in the mandatory broadcasting of "Stolen Hour."

The deliberate support of any candidate over another candidate has no place in media programming governed by FCC regulations. It is the obligation of FCC license holders to present a balanced approach to broadcasting. Notice the word balanced, not the word unbiased. Offering Senator John Kerry a chance for rebuttal on your "documentary" is not a legitimate use of balanced reporting.

It is our intention to cease advertising with your affiliate unless actions are taken by the Sinclair Broadcast Group to establish and maintain fair and balanced viewpoints in programming.

Sincerely,
XXX

:wow:

Note, I have removed the name of the sponsor due to a desire for them to NOT get freeper emails.

They refer to the film as "Stolen Hour" but who's gonna correct them.

Sorry for the dup, I guess someone else got this response earlier. Eitherway, it's heartening. :hi:

7. Power to the People, RIGHT ON!! Keep it up, everybody!
Really good idea I think, in e-mails/contacts, to make it connect. I have altered my messages accordingly, i.e.
To PepsiCo, I mentioned the products I like and buy, but will no longer be buying. To Applebee's, I mention the GCs I purchase as gifts, and the meals I have enjoyed there but will gladly give up in order to stand on the side of integrity. To Papa John's, how much I love their pizza and how happy I was to get a franchise in our area (FINALLY!) but that I will not be enjoying their product if they advertise/support this programming.
That kind of thing.

10. Good for you and good for them. That's a point-blank
letter they wrote to Sinclair. Let's just hope a whole lot of their customers do the same thing. There's power in numbers. Way to go.

18. How about some payback in Crawford TX then?
Where the Iconoclast is getting beat into the ground by repukes?

CRAWFORD, Texas (Oct. 12) - Signs at the bank, the cafe and the Bottlinger Grain bins all declare Crawford - the proud home of the president's ranch - as "Bush Country."
So when the Lone Star Iconoclast, a tiny weekly that bills itself as Bush's hometown paper, endorsed Democrat John Kerry, there was hell to pay.
Local businesses pulled their ads and banned the paper from their stores.

"We felt a little betrayed," said Larry Nelson, manager of the Crawford Country Style, a downtown shop that sells "Luvya Dubya" trinkets and other Bush memorabilia.

<snip>

"If it wasn't the week of the Tonkawa Traditions, it would have still been upsetting," said Nick Spanos, owner of the Coffee Station, a convenience store and cafe where Bush sometimes dines when he is in town. "But that on top of it just made it a little bit worse."

Smith said he hopes tempers cool and his relations with Crawford merchants improve after the election.

Asked about that possibility, Spanos replied, "With him? Hell, no."

There's a couple of businesses who could use a little love...

The helped my niece a bunch. Her GPA went up over a point and she has been an avid reader ever since.

I hope they do the same too. The freepers will boycott them too, not that they will use anything that will gain them knowledge anyway.

19. Sinclair is chugging pepto bismol by the case right now.
My next car purchase was going to be a Prius. Sorry Toyota. Bye bye 25 grand. Bought two cases of Coke today. Don't really like the stuff over Pepsi. Get it, Pepsi. I carry the rest of the list in my pocket in case any other advertiser thinks I'm not serious.

23. GO LOCAL GO LOCAL GO LOCAL FOR GREATEST IMPACT
The key is to find local advertisers who sponsor on the affiliates and hit them hard. This is where maximum impact can be had.
