Are they embarrassed by spelling the full names, or does W stand for Whites?

4. that comes straight from the top
In 1972, Haldeman decided nobody liked Nixon's name so they
printed nothing but "re-elect the president" stickers.

All those yellow Ws means they are trying to get rid of the Cheney name altogether and keep things real buddy-like fpr their hard core friends.

They have given up on undecideds and are now going to do everything they can to "energize" their base --- it's going to get ugly.

5. W is a Brand
The whole W thing is an attempt to create a brand which can be marketed and take the emphasis off the actual man.

Not using his actual name, but instead a graphic artist designed logo is a means to that end.

13. There are a few Bush "brands" ...
They have different "brands" for him.

There is the "interestate highway" brand, the "western" brand, etc.....

The W is based on those stupid OBX and HH logos that are aping EU country stickers.

I even have one...a UK one, for Unversity of Kentucky (my alma mater).

16. Strong Inversion of SES Demographics Right Now
There is a very strong trend toward reversal of the traditional SES/Party Affiliation right now.

By that I mean many lower middle class and outright poor people are strong supporters of Bush and loyal Republicans. Conversely, many professionals, people in the upper-middle class and moderately wealthy people are Kerry supporters and consider themselves Democrats.

Author Thomas Frank has detailed this odd situation in his (highly recommended) book, "What's the Matter With Kansas?".

Personally, I have seen continuous, overwhelming evidence that this is the case, and I even got my wife to concede that she sees it too. We see BMW's, Lexus, Volvo's, and other nice, late model import cars with Kerry/Edwards stickers and lots of beat-up, oxidized, wood-panel sided station wagons with Bush/Cheney stickers. I have seen further confirmation of this trend by counting yard signs in various areas of town. Affluent neighborhoods have far more Kerry/Edwards yard signs, while 'low-rent' areas have more Bush/Cheney yard signs.

It's not a hard rule or always the case, but it really does seem to me to be true more often than not. Take it for what it's worth.

3. I've seen it too here in Richmond, VA
My take is that they're embarrassed to have the names - the "W"s are pretty hard to identify until you're close.

I'm also not seeing anywhere near the number of * stickers or yard signs that I'd prepared myself for - saw 2 driving home from work today but saw 3 Kerry stickers (counting mine, that's a 2 to 1 advantage). Plus, these were the only * stickers I've seen in a week! I've seen about 6 Kerry stickers in the same timeframe.

And no, I'm not in the Fan or near VCU -

18. They don't need to use the full name.
After four years of our national nightmare, everyone knows who Dubya is.

There's another W sticker that's even worse:

There is a chain of very elegant hotels called W. It's been around for many years, and it's kinda expensive--they have several properties in New York City and the least expensive one is $329 per night. Their logo is just a capital W with the word "HOTELS" under it, knocked out of a black background. This other Bush sticker has the big W, but under the letter are the words "FOR PRESIDENT".

26. In 2000, they were proud to have big stickers.
Now, even when the GOP is giving those little W's away, I don't see very many of them.

Definite shift (from 2000, here in my conservative Puget Sound neighborhood), not many people proud enough of * to put a big 'ol sticker on their car these days!

32. "W" is easier to spell and doesn't take up much room on the SUV...
...Here in southern California the few Bush stickers I have seen have all been on huge gas-guzzling SUV's or trucks, except for a lone Ford Taurus.

SOP: Pull up next to them. Honk. Give 'em the peace sign. Kiss the American flag cleverly hidden on the passenger seat. Cut in front of them (using your turn signal, and obeying all traffic laws, of course)so they can see your Kerry sticker. Let 'em repass.

Works every time.

36. Funny true story...
There have been a rash of those square black stickers in my mainly republican neighborhood. You know the ones.. big capital "W" and then, underneath, in smaller letters "the president."

I saw a similar sticker on a car yeaterday that made me laugh out loud. Same square black background, but in stead of a "W" it was an "M" and underneath "the moron"

...as the late Jack Paar would say "I kid you not."
