My suggestion would be to come across as sympathetic. He should say something like this: "We received a grim reminder that lack of federal funding of embryonic stem cell research is neither compassionate nor a pro-life position. While the President protects embryos that would be destroyed anyway, I would like to make use out of them so we can bring about a better quality of life for those who suffer from paralysis, spinal cord injury, diabetes, Parkinson's, and so many other diseases. As we all know, those with these diseases lost a warrior this past weekend. He was a friend of mine, and I would like to point to him because of his dream to walk again. It is a dream that millions share. I've seen this dream across America during this campaign. I see the vision of caregivers who long for their friends to walk again. I've seen the mothers care for diabetic kids. I've seen people with Parkinson's implore America to join in the fight for embryonic stem cell research. To all of them whose cause lost a warrior, I have a message that after almost 25 years, still rings in America. "The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die."
