7. I called mine in Dayton, OH
...expressed my outrage and was given the Sinclair comment line number. Sinclair has these people over the same barrel as it does the rest of us.

Another thought, for what it's worth: If Sinclair is making these stations cancel prime-time programming for this, the networks with whom these stations are affiliated should also know of our displeasure. Here in Dayton, one station is affliated with ABC (after just recently losing its NBC affiliation) and the other is with Fox (so fat lot of good complaining to Fox would do). But I am going to drop ABC a line informing them that their local station has just lost one household -- possibly permanently. Same with advertisers.

5. It's time for the General Managers at these stations....
... to do what's right.

They control their transmitters, not Sinclair. They can determine whether the smear piece airs or not.

I hope some of them, at least, are willing to refuse this perverse order, even if it costs them their jobs.

6. WTTA in Sarasota
In looking at the ratings of my local affiliate, and it seems that scarcely anyone watches this station.

I've written to the station, the cable company (Bright House), and one advertiser from the Web site. I think that's probably enough time spent, though, since the station's ratings are so bad. It's in last place of all the locals. I have other things to do.

This Sinclair Group seems to be a loser, here in Tampa Bay, Florida, anyway.

8. Sinclair advertisers?
I'd be interested in writing a few Sinclair advertisers letting them know how unhappy I am with their patronage of that network.

Do we know who their major advertisers are?

If it's GM, I'd consider it my duty to my country to exclude GM products from my next purchasing decision. etc.

9. Don't forget the License angle on these stations-TIME CRITICAL
http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/002985.html

But what isn't done a lot which requires the broadcaster to rack up expensive legal fees, is to challenge every one of their affiliates' FCC license renewals as they come up this year and next.

The FCC rules state that anyone who has an interest, presumably a local interest, in the renewal of a TV license may file either an informal objection or a more formal petition that must meet specific requirements. Note that Petitions to Deny are required to be filed with the FCC one month in advance of the station’s license expiration date. According to the FCC’s schedule of station expiration dates by state, any move to file Petitions to Deny or objections in advance of the station’s license expiration date are already too late to be accepted for Sinclair stations in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia, as the expiration date has passed and the file has closed. However, note that there still is time to organize and file Petitions or objections by November 1, 2004 for Sinclair stations in North Carolina and South Carolina, and for Florida by January 1, 2005.

Bloggers could link up with local media law attorneys of like mind in each of these Sinclair affiliate towns to gather informal objections and formal petitions challenging the renewal of these Sinclair licenses, which would then be forwarded to the FCC for inclusion in the station's renewal file at least one month prior to the license expiration date for consideration at the time of the upcoming license renewals this year and in 2005-2007. For example, here are the North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida stations with upcoming license expirations, for which objections and petitions must be filed by November 1, 2004 for the Carolina stations, and by January 1, 2005 for the Florida stations.

10. My Email to KSMO in kcmo
programming@wb62.com
Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal

I have learned that Sinclair Broadcasting your mother company is planning to pre emp ksmo's programming to show an anti John Kerry
propagandic film in hopes to sway the 2004 election in George Bushs Favor.
This i find unethical and if you choose to become a partisan mouth piece for the bush campaign .I will be forced to not watch your station as well as boycott and write letters to your advertisers.
Now i love your station and do enjoy your programming. But this is down right orwellian.
Please do the american thing and not Preempt normal programming on this baseless biased anti Kerry piece .
I would feel the same way if you played fahrenhiet 911.
It's not your place to create peoples opinions its your place to inform them..Come on you are better than this.
What is happening to my america.

Best regards
James Shively

12. KMWB Minneapolis has a comment link to Sinclair on their main page.
http://www.kmwb23.com/minneapolis_mn/

I don't know if it was always there, but I suspect they added it to deflect criticism directly to Sinclair. They're a WB network affiliate. I think I'll drop a line to WB.

15. Well, that explains it
We get WTTA and watch old sitcoms in the evening. Every night they advertise their leading evening news story and every single night it's something negative about John Kerry or Democrats in general. They are not subtle in the least.

Thanks for the information and link.
