7. Not All Stations are owned by Sinclair

Sinclair will tell every station to give the same response and to not provide any further comment.

We need to separate out the TV stations that Sinclair/the Smith Brothers actually own vs. the many TV stations that they are hired to manage and program. Those other stations have completely separate owners who are much more likely to listen to reason.

As an end result, I can imagine Sinclair losing contracts to manage TV stations, if those owners get mad. I would be very mad if a manager I hired started using my property for his own political purposes.

I am writing to you today because I have recently
learned of a plan to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That
Never Heal" just days before the election. I must say
that I am appalled and disappointed.

This decision is not only a violation of campaign
finance law, it is completely hypocritical to an
earlier statement by your company regarding airing
this type of program. I believe the statement was "we
do not believe such political statements should be
disguised as news content."

I fully support your right to vote for any candidate
you choose. However when a company uses prime time air
as a sneaky attempt to bring down a candidate in a

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Sinclair broadcasting’s decision to preempt their regular programming in order to air the anti-Kerry film “Stolen Honor.” This is an unprecedented act of partisan politics and nothing more than a smear tactic. Since this is not news, it violates the Electioneering Restrictions and Disclosure under the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. This is also extreme hypocrisy on the part of Sinclair, who back in April refused to allow their affiliates to air the Nightline segment featuring the names of the soldiers lost in the Iraq War, saying “we do not believe such political statements should be disguised as news content." The decision to air this film, which is meant to affect the outcome of the Presidential Election on November 2nd, is clearly a political statement disguised as news content. Until actions are taken to reverse this decision, I will be boycotting your stations and telling everyone I know who lives in one of your markets to spread the word and do the same. I will also be writing letters to the FCC and FEC to make sure that this fallacious decision is not allowed to stand.
