Dear Nader Voters: Think Supreme Court.
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 07:18 PM by Cyrano
Just ask yourself this one question. WHO DO YOU WANT TO APPOINT THE NEXT SUPREME COURT JUSTICE?

If Bush is reselected because of your vote, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that we may very well see a new, modern-day Inquisition.

What if Bush wins, or steals it again because of an extremely close vote? I'm all for a third, fourth, or fifth party system in this country. But when the maniacs are piling up the cord wood for our incineration for noncompliance, I have a problem with misplaced idealism ala Naderites. My last thought, while burning at the stake, will be, "Damn, I hope they they get all those Naderite voters also."

Sorry if that sounds vindictive, but hey, burning at the stake really hurts a lot.

1. The average Supreme Court justice currently serves ~18 years.

And given how Americans are living longer and longer, it doesn't look like this trend will drop-off at any time soon.

Assuming that a mere two justices retire in the next four years, we'd be looking at an average of 36 years of voting on the land's highest court. Add Kerry's 4 year term, and we're looking at a vote that, in reality, will determine 40 years of decision-making.

The Supreme Court will decide questions on the environment, corporate malfeasance, trade policy, human rights, gay rights, women's rights, checks and balances, education, workers' rights, handicapped rights, the death penalty, privacy rights, etc etc etc. If anything is remotely controversial, an attempt will be made to bring that issue before the Supreme Court. Given how weak the checks on this branch of govt are, it'd be nice to have the ultimate trump card on our side.. a liberal bench.

2. And another thing...
...a vote for Nader will NOT stop the Iraq war. And if Gore had rightly taken office, there would have been no Iraq war, and probably no 9-11. Nader is to blame for that to some degree. Nader should fuck off.
