Here is how the CNN poll is being Freeped - Insider Information
This comes from a reliable source who could not keep his mouth shut.

A script has been created in one of those programs that allows you to record your mouse clicks and then play them back at a later time.

The script connects to the Internet using a dial-up modem, goes to CNN, votes, erases the cookie, and then disconnects. The script is then run continuously every 60 seconds. This works well because some polls record your I.P. address and will not count your vote if it is a duplicate. Reconnecting usually issues a new I.P.

Lets say with dial-up time included, you get 35-40 votes per hour. Multiply this by 100 or more computers and you've got yourself one hell of a freeping machine!!

2. So what does one do with this information - tell one of the networks?
What can you do about it? This is big.

3. That's a lot of crap to go through just to freep a stupid online poll
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 09:13 PM by high density
But at the very least, it shows that CNN would rather have a poll freeped for Bush by a bot than a DU'd poll by real people for Kerry.

22. The media KNOWS this stuff... They don't care..
About 2 years ago, Oprah ran a poll, and the freeps did this. (actually several of them have fessed up to doing this very thing)..I used to have the copy of their "lessons"...it's on Oreillysucks.com, but I cannot find it right now..

anyway, we sent them the information, and they restarted the ppoll with an explanation of what the freeps were doing..

a paper in San Francisco did an article on it..

I wish they would all just STOP the damn polls.. Computer wizards know how to cheat..I vote ONE TIME...

The polls are fake..and when they promote them, they are just fooling themselves :(

5. Thanks for confirming
I knew they were running some kind of script. The CNN site had over 250K votes in an hour and a half, and almost all for Bush. For that to happen late Saturday afternoon, one of the slowest news times, and slowest times on the Internet is too suspicious.

8. Send it out to all the networks and papers. Don't forget C-Span for two
reasons - it it hits one of the papers, they might read it - the other reason is that their hosts always seem to be so ignorant about what is passing through the internet. Also, call it in.

If CNN really wants to - they can analyze the IP stuff and figure it out. And/or come up with a technical solution.

10. After seeing the plot on that web site, and plotting myself for a while
it is clear that some major "tampering" happened to that poll. http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=335 I mean in one hour Bush got 200,000 votes??? I just tracked the last hour and he only got just over 4000 votes!! In the same hour Kerry got almost 10000 votes!!! This pattern is back to normal with Kerry getting 2.1-2.4 times as many votes as Bush. Something evil happened in a 6-8 hour period today! Not that is matters, but there was very clear tampering - it's not as if only Republican people sat around in front of their computers on a beautiful October afternoon and voted for Bush one at a time - peaking at an astonishing rate of 200000 in one hour just for Bush?? Very funny freepers, veeeery funny!

11. Something odd I noticed is that I had to run my Adaware every day since
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 09:29 PM by KoKo01
Skinner asked us to "Unfreep Polls" after debates. Every time I'm picking up one or two Ad programs. Before that I only had to check once every two weeks and most times didn't have anything. I'm dial up..and all over the net daily. Only when I answered the "Online Polls" did I pick up this stuff.

Don't know what that means...maybe some of you "Techies" do, though.

OnEdit: Had to run the "Adaware" because my computer slowed down to a crawl. That was my alert.

19. Get Firefox, if you don't have it already
www.mozilla.org

You can configure Firefox to block all popup windows and to reject cookies that come from somewhere other than the site you are surfing at the moment (i.e. logging on to cnn.com and getting a cookie from www.freepingbullshit.com)

and we can demand such a check ... the CNN poll is such an outlier (or is that an OUT and OUT LIAR) that it should cause suspicion ... what about contacting the sunday shows???? what does everybody think???

13. CNN Poll still being Freeped Big Time.
The CNN Poll is still being Freeped big time. Bush now has over 800 thousand votes at 58%, while Kerry has 564 thousand votes at 41% I wonder why CNN hasnt taken this poll down?

14. It is similar to "recording a macro" on WORD
There are even free programs downloadable to do this sort of recording of keystrokes to play over and over and over.

The whole online poll thing is so stooopid.

Why do so many sites have these polls? To show 'hits' to advertisers. A little 'interactive game' for their visitors to make them feel important and counted.

"Unscientific". No kidding. But they will not stop them especially as long as we "DU this poll" and they "Freep" polls. Just hits to show advertisers.

15. This is why
these sites should not even do these polls.

They are too easily manipulated.

35-40 votes per hour? That is NOTHING. I have a programmer who works for me who could write a program that would not even have to mimic the mouse movements. I have been told that this can be controlled programmatically.

One of our buildings, for example, has 4 direct multi-gigabit backbone connections and we control about 30,000 IP addresses there. One program running on one system could post votes as quickly as the page would load (and they load really fast without graphics turned on). This could be an average of at least 1 per second. Each connection being made via a different IP address. Now launch 2 of those on a single system. That is 7200 per hour. Now make it enough running all at once that all 30,000 IP addresses are used in one hour. 30,000 votes in an hour. All could run on a single system as the resources used are very low.

Now consider the sites that do not track IP addresses. 30,000 votes per hour is cake. :)

IMHO, these sites should simply not do these polls. The results are always vastly different, so what does it matter?

on this...most polls work on cookie placement...erase the cookie or open a new User and you can vote again.

20. anyone who is behind a router (and can control it)
can vote lots of time. All you have to do is change your DHCP address scheme. Lots of addresses to chose from.

18. On the ten o'clock news
with that Japanese woman, she reported the CNN poll as 47-45 for Kerry. And ABC news as 44-41 for Kerry. So maybe they have an ounce of integrity.

As of yet, they aren't publicizing any doctored polls. I sent a patriot missile email yesterday afternoon.

21. I, so embarrassed to admit this, was a CNN.com junkie for a long time.
And I'd take the polls every day. The HIGHEST tally they have ever had, was something to do with Bob Hope's death. The vote count was somewhere in the low to mid 200,000 range. That's the highest I've ever seen the total vote.

Tonight I go by CNN (habit, hey, I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs so I have to have ONE bad habit :) ) anyway, I go there and look at the polls and Kerry has lost his huge lead, * is now ahead and they have over one MILLION votes total.

So yep, they is some serious freepin' goin' on.

Ted Turner, damn you for ever selling CNN! You owe us big time. Now go buy it back!
