Even though I think everyone within the media keeps saying Bush did better, that doesn't mean he won the debate. It also doesn't mean his slide in the polls are over. Even the new polling proves that still MORE Americans thought John Kerry did better. Even if that number is smaller than what it was after last Thursday's debate.
I think going into this debate Bush needed a knock out blow. After his last debate, anything less would just not cut it. It's like being down by 7 points and kicking a FG as time expires. It won't win you the game. The fact that Bush, at his best, still lost to Kerry in the post debate polls proves that the slide will only continue. He needed to come in here and make Kerry look like the bad guy, he couldn't do that. Now that Kerry has the lead in most of the polls, Bush won't be able to gain it back.
He's gone, unless Kerry drops the ball in the next debate. But basically all Kerry needs to do is come out, smile and keep his cool and he'll win.
Unlike in 2000 the media is actually calling it for Kerry.
Face it, Bush needed a better than average night, while he also needed Kerry to fall flat on his face. Neither happened, and thus it may be the end of Bush's 4 years in Washington DC.
