2. My email
(Off the top of my head)

Chris, Ron, Andrea, et al:

I'm not sure why you're afraid to state the obvious: Senator Kerry won tonight's debate. There's nothing Bush could hit any senator with that amounts to the mistakes he's made as Commander in Chief -- serious, tragic, devastating mistakes -- and he STILL couldn't admit a single one of them.

That alone cost Bush the debate, and the rest of his performance was a desperate attempt to run on Senator Kerry's record in Congress instead of his own record in the Oval Office (or the Crawford Ranch, as the case may be).

Asked them why was it that this president cannot admit he has made a mistake--did this not indicate that he is not capable of fixing a problem if he can't even admit that there is one?

9. My email to the bushco whores
<snip>
Bush was petulant, shrill, and in the most
unprofessional moment of the debate, interrupted and
attacked the moderator, Charlie Gibson.

Kerry was clear and concise. He had a solution for the
economy and Iraq. He looked calm, reasonable and
statesmanlike.

And why are you letting Buchanan run over everybody?

Thanks for turning me off, Matthews, you just lost
MSNBC a viewer.

My Letter:

I think it’s troubling that after three debates, three opportunities to convince the American people that they have the answers for the next four years, the Bush Administration has yet to produce a single new idea. And as we saw in the St. Louis debate, President Bush still cannot admit that there are even any problems with his administration. Nearly 10,000 American troops have been killed and wounded in Iraq, but everything is coming up roses.

And how will President Bush cut the budget in half during the next four years as he promised? It’s hard to tell, because he hasn’t provided any specifics – although in the debate tonight the President said he’s willing to spend “whatever it takes” to win the War in Iraq. That’s far from reassuring. John Kerry will roll back the tax cuts given to the richest one percent of Americans, and use the revenue to fund job creation, healthcare, and middle class tax cuts.

That’s a plan for our future.

George W. Bush was too much like every woman's worst boyfriend Friday night -- immature, hysterical, defensive, untruthful. His anger was barely under control and he looked unstable. He frightened me. His kind of man makes women and children cry. I am far more afraid for our safety after tonight's display from Bush.

("trying" is the operative word here)

Chris -

What was up with all the yelling from Bush during the debate? It wasn't very presidential and reminded me of an episode of Jerry Springer or something.

He really needs to take some diplomacy lessons from his Dad.

Sincerely...

Bush improved this time

Screaming at the moderator is definitely an improvement over talking to someone who isn't there who for some reason didn't want him to finish, but I can't help wondering what all the pundits would be saying about Howard Dean had he ever been been so pissy and petulant. At least I can sleep more soundly knowing that although Bush might not care about people without health insurance, but he is definitely opposed to bringing back slavery. Imagine my relief.

28. I just emailed them this:
I watched a disturbing performance by President Bush tonight. In the last debate, he seemed lost and clueless and simply repeated himself over and over.

Tonight he yelled, strutted around, cut off the moderator, sounded as if he were pleading with the audience, laughed when Senator Kerry pointed out the Duelfer report said there were and are no WMDs, assured us he wouldn't appoint a Supreme Court justice in favor of slavery, thought he was running against Senator Kennedy, made lame jokes that went over like a fart in church and, again, lied to the American people. He came off as pissy and petulant.

All in all, disturbing to think this is the guy with the nuclear codes.

Senator Kerry, meanwhile, seemed to do even better than he did in the first debate, and I thought he did well in the first one! He was more presidential than the president, he was relaxed and confident and refused to take the low road with President Bush. He answered questions thoroughly and was strong and hard-hitting. Everytime I hear Senator Kerry speak, I am more confident we need him to be the next Commander-in-Chief.

I'm a Texan and a veteran's wife and he's won my vote by a mile.

31. Hardball Sucks
Anyone but me notice that their panel was made up of entirely * supporters? Maybe with the exception of Ron Reagan, but really, after such a clear win, you had Pat (pitch-fork Nixon operative)Buchanan, Ed (lawyer for * selection by the SC) Gillespie, Andrea (I hope my husband still has a job on Nov 3rd) Mitchell, and Tweety.

If you watched their coverage exclusively, you would have thought Bush landed knockout punch after knockout punch. They couldn't find one Democrat to put on the panel.

Sad to say, but Faux's coverage was more ballanced.

32. My e-mail
Subject: I'm baffled.

I hope I see something on your program that clears this up.

Ok, first of all this debate was closer than the last one. Bush didn't shoot himself in the foot nearly as badly but Kerry still came out on top.

Here's what I'm baffled about though... why does Kerry keep letting Bush get away with attacking him on the 87 billion vote? Has the entire country just forgotten that Bush threatened to VETO that bill himself!?!?!?

Kerry's protest vote never for a single second put the armor for those troops in jeopardy, there wasn't a person in the Senate who didn't know that Bill would pass by an overwhelming margin and there's nothing wrong whatsoever with getting a protest on the record about the lack of means to properly pay for the bill under those circumstances..

Bush's action on the other hand DID jeopardize that armor. The white house issued a statement in October 2003 that if about 20 billion dollars worth of loans to Iraq in that bill weren't made into a grant, or in other words an outright gift, they would VETO the bill. So why are we seeing John Kerry attacked over this issue when the president is the one who BOTH sent the troops into combat without armor in the FIRST PLACE and THEN held the very safety of those same troops hostage to secure a monetary gift for Iraq???? He's the Commander in Chief and he's holding the safety of his own troops hostage to play politics over whether some money getting sent to Iraq is a loan or a grant and then he has the nerve to attack Senator Kerry for lodging a *protest vote*?

And he gets away with it????

How does that happen? Where are the journalists who are supposed to be keeping the public informed of the facts?

President Bush continues to attack John Kerry's attendance record while ignoring the fact that he has spent MORE TIME on vacation than any other president. If Bush is so concerned about our safety perhaps he should spend more time reading his PDB's that plainly state "BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK U.S.". Bush is clearly out of touch with reality.

Chris, Ron, Andrea, et al:

I'm sorry but I don't believe that Bush gets to be declared the winner of Friday's debate simply because his performance was slightly less abysmal than at the first debate. It doesn't even make it a draw. I*expect* the President of the United States to be poised, thoughtful, diplomatic, intelligent and honest during a debate. I expect him to have real facts at his disposal and be able to defend his record. I expect him to understand what is affecting our nation on a daily basis. That may be high expectations on my part, but the position requires nothing less as far as I'm concerned.

And yet, Mr. Bush, while able to outperform himself from the last debate (a very low bar indeed), wasn't able to meet my expectations. He answered questions vaguely. He cited bizarre examples (Dred Scott, really?). He could never defend his record, instead choosing to attack Kerry. He bullied the moderator like a petulant child.

Worse yet, he lied. Repeatedly. He doesn't own interest in a timber company! Oh, wait, yes he does! He's a good steward of the land! Really? Tell that to every environmental group out there because they haven't gotten the memo. He won't appoint biased judges! Come on, who is he kidding?

It's time to have high expectations in a president. John Kerry clearly won Friday's debate, and will hopefully become our next president.
