1998 Prince O-> song "Osama bin laden Gettin Ready to Bomb"
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 09:20 PM by greyl
Live aftershow Ultrecht, December 24 1998.
A few key lyrics:

"I've gotta go home y'all...
I've gotta go back to America
I've gotta go get ready for the bomb
Osama Bin Laden getting ready to bomb

America... you better watch out... 2001"

So, even a guy who spends 18 hours a day in the studio was aware of the potential threat. ;)

1. What Osama wanted
From Greg Palast's Armed Madhouse:

"I’m always surprised at the debate over “What drives Osama? What does Al-Qaeda want?” There should be no confusion: Al-Qaeda states its mission, like most enterprises, on its Web site. Osama had it written out in English, in capital letters, so it wouldn’t be difficult to miss the point.

DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST THE AMERICANS OCCUPYING THE LAND OF THE TWO HOLY PLACES? EXPEL THE INFIDELS FROM THE ARAB PENINSULA The “two holy places” are Mecca and Medina, and their “land” is Saudi Arabia. That’s what Osama wanted: U.S. troops out of Saudi Arabia.

Bin Laden issued his demand on August 23, 1996; and on April 29, 2003, the Tuesday before the President was chauffeured by fighter jet onto the deck of the Abe Lincoln, Mr. Bush gave bin Laden exactly what he wanted: U.S. troops sent packing from the Land of the Holy Places."

My comments: Now if bin Laden only wanted US out of Saudi Arabia (and away from it's oil, which he goes on to explain)makes me ask two questions:
1) Why is there still a "war on terror" if "al qaeda's" demands were met by Rumsfeld (who gave into terrorist demands)
and
2) Why would bin laden strike in the U.S if he knew that surely the US would strike back in the Middle East and gain more control of their assets (oil)? He wanted the U.S. OUT of Saudi Arabia and how was he to know the US would not strike there or increase their presence, since several of the alleged "hijackers" were from Saudi Arabia.

2. If the song was called
"Silverstein Gettin Ready to Pull", I suppose it would get more attention from people, eh? ;)

3. Lol.

I suspect that if it had been called, "Mary had a little lamb" and had included the word "pull" and the word "silver", the tinhatters would have found a way to make it fit their bizarre theories, as it appears obvious they require no facts or evidence to go off into full tinfoil mode.

6. Asking for evidence? That's good to see.

I've had the song for a few years(grabbed from Winmx) and asked about it on the alt.prince(.mp3?) newsgroup which is where I first heard that it was done in 1998 at Club Tivoli. If you search some keywords from the lyrics and the venue, you could probably find a few more links than the two here:

Key points:

"...Osama bin laden did a lot of 'bombing' before 2001, so Prince wasn't psychic after all."
http://www.housequake.com/archive/topic/40109-1.html

-and

"The dutch radiostation that broadcasted the section from the Utrecht Tivoli aftershow from 1998 with the Osama Bin Laden Getting Ready To Bomb chants, now had Candy Dulfer on the air explaining about this
jam.

She said she didn't hear it at the night itself, but said she'd heard the bootleg. She also told that at the concerts that jam was always named '2001: Also Sprach Zarathustra' on setlists.

She said Prince is an intelligent guy who thinks about this kind of stuff a lot and so she wasn't surprised that he said these things at that jam. She called him a visionary, very religious person and that she herself was not so much into all that stuff.
She also mentioned that although it was kind of foreseeing what Prince did, she also remarked that anyone who has had a more than passive interest into Middle East problematics, would have known Bin Laden and the danger he represents and that many people were talking about him already for quite some time."

If anyone is curious to hear the relevant part of the recording, I can take care of that.

9. Here's a clip:

The entire song lasts about 8 minutes; this is just the beginning and end. Because the sirens are creepy.

10.  "Hello Dear Friends, we hope you're enjoying the All Night Images show

"Dear Friends,

STOP worrying about those pesky 911 lies you've been told. Your President wouldn't lie to you, and those pinko LIBRULS that keep asking disturbing questions about 911, why we talk about Al KDuh but not Osama - thinking about that kind of stuff will make it harder for you to concentrate on "American Idol" and things of this nature. Here's a better idea: keep your dial set right here, right where it is. On ROSY99.7. We've got 63 minutes of uninterrupted music THIS hour. more meaningless music for these troubled times."
