4. What about that general who told us that the F-16s went like

"scolded apes", going at full throttle at 600 MPH? Except that they can fly at 1200+MPH....

Depending on a lot of things - fuel load, altitude, weapons load out. Are they carrying external tanks or relying on the internals? Are they going with guns only or do you have weapons on the rails? Was the aircraft sitting on alert with weapons on board and a pilot in the seat - what we called "hot cocked and ready to rock?" Or did they have to pull the pilot out of the AMU, get him to the bird, unload the ballast and inert ammo and then load live ammo on it...typically, we didn't have jets with live munitions on board unless they were going out to the ranges to expend it. And the alert birds were stood down several years before the attacks on September 11.

I'm speaking from my own experience as a line troop on the F-16. There's going to be others with their own opinions about it as well.

But only for a few minutes. IIRC most fighters at full throttle use all their fuel in less than half an hour- the afterburners are for escape, not attack.

If the pilot does a full burner takeoff carrying a standard weapons load out, he's going to empty the centerline drop tank as he gets off the runway.

Unless you can somehow connect that back to Rumsfeld or Bush these guys don't want to hear it. Unless, Connie Rice was emptying the fuel tanks before they took off. Yeah, that must be it.

I guess that's why we're always in a disadvantage in our various global conflicts. It's the fuel tank...stupid.
