Where is our 9/11 "deep throat"?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20050602/ts_alt_afp/usiraqwatergatebush

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US media needs a modern-day "Deep Throat" within the administration of
President George W. Bush to reveal how America was "misled" on
Iraq, former presidential contender George McGovern said.
"We need someone like that who is highly placed to tell us what's really going on. We know that we were misled on Iraq," McGovern told Fox News Radio.

Why can't we have someone like this for 9/11?????

1. Much bigger than Watergate....and more explosive
no pun intended.

Bloggers and Netizens seem to be the investigators
of the 21st century. Greg Palast...you want a shot
at this one?

4. I agree. It's up to the people to find it
Hardly anybody else will. Haven't heard from Michael for a long time either (haven't checked his website either, he kinda lost me after the elections)

I don't know either whether he was the Deepthroat or not. It didn't solve JFK and it didn't solve 9/11 and those are the two major coups needed to be solved.

"June 3, 2005—The "Mark Felt is Deep Throat" story is not much of a revelation, despite the ridiculous and off-target tempest in the national teapot that has ensued. Felt has been at the top of the short list for a long time, suspected by many historians.

What's not being discussed amidst the ridiculous Republican-Democrat arguments, and raging battles between new Felt cult worshippers ("he's a hero!") and Felt attackers ("he's a traitor!") are the darker historical realities that remain dangerously misunderstood.

Felt was no more a saint than Bob Woodward is an epitome of heroic muckraking. In both cases, they are insiders with connections who have not always acted in the best interests of democracy, but who now have shining reputations built entirely on one (let's call it "interesting") episode.

Exemplified by successful and continuous Bush administration crimes and cover-up, Watergate was a valuable lesson to government criminals. The American public, meanwhile, has learned nothing."

8. Sibel Edmonds is a potential "deep throat" but unlike Felt she
really is a hero IMO.

5. I think there will be a lot of 9/11 "deep throats"- there have to be a lot
of people who have information but are afraid to reveal it. When the first one steps forward, and they will do so at considerable risk, I believe that others will follow.

One person can be ignored, hundreds of people who are unrelated cannot.

6. problem may not be lack of informants; but lack of investigative Media
There appear to be plenty of deep throats out there. The problem seems to be lack of independent Media to print what they are saying.

So what can a deep throat do if the Media doesn't want to go there?

What are the alternatives?

9. This is a good point. The mainstream media simply does not want to
touch the idea that the government was complicit in 9/11. And this is likely to continue for some time for various reasons. So a Deep Throat might not do any good if the MSM won't touch the issue (although the mainstream media was actaully very reluctant to go after watergate initially). But if the new Deep Throat could reach a blogger or some alternative media outlet, it would be a great start.

Another factor is Bush's approval ratings are dropping, which may give journalists some courage to go after his administration.

10. Exactly. Richard Clarke's book was published a year ago
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 06:24 AM by LizW
and it plainly said that the objective was set the day after 9/11 and Rumsfeld and Bush started pushing for some link between 9/11 and Iraq, even though they knew there wasn't one.

I don't know what more "Deep Throats" could add to that. They wanted to attack Iraq, they knew Iraq was not connected to AlQaeda or 9/11, and they lied about it continuously until they got the war they wanted.

7. Why isn't complicity already obvious? why not of magnitude of "deepthroat
"

9/11 Commission testimony documented Cheney/Rumsfeld/Myers/
Whitehouse knew about the planes and had ability to stop them; but didn't. So why isn't that sufficient evidence of complicity and of comparable magnitude as revelations of "deep throat"?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=125x41194

9/11 Commission Report says Pentagon and military never knew about Flights 77 and 93; but many officials testified to the contrary: Trans. Sec Normal Mineta, Nat. Sec. Coordinator Richard Clarke, FAA Laura Brown, and FAA Jane Garvey, etc. Isn't it clear the Comm. Report is deliberate disinformation to cover up the stand down??????

According to a report by Richard Clark, National Security Coordinator: He reported that the deputy director of the White House Situation Room told him at 9:15 that they had been on the air threat call with NORAD and FAA. This call had been going on a considerable time as it had begun as a significant event call and had been upgraded to an air threat call, and there had been many exchanges of information. According to Clarke, the FAA head Jane Garvey was at the White House teleconference answering questions about the hijackings before 9:20 am. The Commission report said that it could not determine who from DOD participated in the teleconference with Clark and the FAA; however Richard Clarke had testified that Gen Myers and Donald Rumsfeld and Jane Garvey were on the call. Others confirm this.
6. Norman Mineta, Secretary of Transportation, said he met with Richard Clark who was on a conference call before going to the White House PEOC room to meet with V.P. Cheney at 9:20. So Clark was on the conference call by 9:15.
7. Norman Mineta, Sec. of Transportation, testimony before 9/11 Comm.: on a meeting he was at with V.P. Cheney at the White House PEOC that he arrived at about 9:20:
“During the time that the airplane was coming in to the Pentagon, there was a young man who would come in and say to the vice president, “The plane is 50 miles out”; “The plane is 30 miles out” ; And when it got down to “the plane is 10 miles out” the young man said to the vice president, “Do the orders still stand?” And the Vice President turned and whipped his neck around and said “Of course the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?”

14. As you've said, we don't need Deep Throats.
We need Woodwards and Bernsteins, and Ben Bradleys to back them up.

We've got Karen and Sibel and Richard, plus the DSM. It's not from lack of whisteblowers, it's the media we need.
