9/11 Truthers Meet the Birth Certificate Brigade
http://frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=86A8B6C7-91FF-47ED-A33D-3C1EBD99BD1C

For years, the "9/11 Truth" movement -- which claimed George W. Bush knew about, or even perpetrated, the 9/11 attack -- enjoyed a friendly home in the far-Left's netroots. As the netroots consolidated their grip on the Democratic Party, "troothers"were left behind. Now, many of the same personalities are behind a movement demanding to see Barack Obama's birth certificate, a coalition in which a surprising group of leftists rub elbows with LaRouchies, Klansmen, Holocaust deniers, and discredited conspiracy theorists of all stripes.

1. Not shocking in the least
The fringe elements of leftist and right wingers are always standing in the the same place politically, they just have their backs to each other.

2. I hate these chicken-shit smear posts
What's points are you trying to score with this garbage? How many CTers in this little corner of the "far-left netroots" have demanded to see Obama's birth certificate?

a surprising group of leftists rub elbows with LaRouchies, Klansmen, Holocaust deniers, and discredited conspiracy theorists of all stripes

This is the kind of tar brush Fox uses. Does this mean we can freely post that the OCT rub elbows with all the far right groups who believe OBL did 9/11? Guess so...

3. Regardless whether members of this forum have allied themselves...
with the "birthers", an article discussing notable members of the September 11th "truth movement" (like Phil Berg) who have joined the ranks of the "birthers" is relevant, and perhaps interesting, to this group. The article posted in the OP also quotes several DU members, yet another reason why we might want to read it.

4. Dude...
From the article:

Leftist sites are having a field day ferreting out anything that looks even remotely like a mainstream conservative endorsement of the birther scam. One poster on Democratic Underground writes: “People get sick of the Birthers, and I can understand why, but I LOVE these hapless morons…I LOVE a group of hapless morons who are turning the GOP into the party of tinfoilhat nutters who only have conspiracy theories about birth certificates? You gotta LOVE that!” Other DU comments: “It's like driving past an accident. I have a weird need to slow down and look.” Writes another: “I feel sorry for them. They truly don't have a clue how ridiculous they look.”

Is this the "alliance" you're referring to, Stretch Armstrong?

5. Those would be the comments I was referring to.
I apologize if I was unclear. I didn't mean to insinuate that members of this forum had allied themselves with the birthers, but that even if they had (and I have seen no evidence of that, here or elsewhere, nor do I have any reason to think they would do so) the article would be of interest for other reasons. In short, I don't think any of us are birthers, CTers and OCTers alike.

10. On the contrary, I think we come off rather well.
DU isn't the website supporting these claims - FreeRepublic is. The article (at least in my opinion) makes that pretty clear.

18. How could this "shame" Du'ers?

The article quotes DU'ers, but is not about DU'ers.

17. It's not about members of this forum
Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 09:08 PM by jberryhill
...and not about you, so calm down.

I have posted a number of things over the last two years about how various things are used as recruiting hooks by Larouchies, Birchers, etc.

It's much like the Aryan nation and militia types using the "Tea Parties" as a recruiting ground. No, not all of the teabaggers are militant racists. Yes, militant racists are using the teabagging thing as an opportunity.

Watching the teabaggers on Glenn Beck meetup groups, for example, you find quite a few 9/11 truthers, which I found surprising.

And, watcha, please feel free to put me in your ignore list if it bothers you that much. That's what it's for.

6. LMAO - "After years of quietly tolerating the troothers in their ranks"
I repudiate the term "troofers", but I ask the longterm CT advocates here at DU, would you describe the situation on left websites as "quietly tolerating"? Smirking Chimp hardly puts up with it at all, Kos bans the mention, and DU has the Dungeon. FrontPage -- isn't that a right-wing rag, berryhill? When a sizable section of the 9/11 Truth Movement leaders can only be described charitably as right-wing libertarians, this author seems to be skipping over a lot of facts to hang 9/11 Truth on the left.

No, not everyone in the 9/11 Truth Movement is a right wing reactionary. But the 9/11 Truth Movement has always been a blend, and Andrew Walden's bias is really showing there in the beginning.

11. "and DU has the Dungeon"
Thank god, eh Bolo? What would you do without it?

I get the game. It's the same strategy governments use to vilify their enemies. Collect them all up into a monolithic group: Russian = Commie, Muslim = Terrorist, 9/11 skeptic = card carrying member of the "Truth Movement"... Once they're neatly packaged, you can tar away: "Evil Empire", "Axis of Evil", Evil Doers", "Troofers"...

16. "fairly painted the opposition here as followers of bushco"
You have unfairly done so. We bristle at the unfairness of it because we don't support Bush at all. I should not be surprised that someone so deluded as to think the planes didn't hit the building and other silly conspiracy theories might be convinced that we do support Bush, but I'll be damned if you state it unchallenged.

22. While this is off topic...
Bolo, while this is off topic, I was on, I believe, the JREF forum when I saw the 12 days of woo. I was laughing so hard people came into my office to know what was so funny. Very well done!
I'm talking about the comic version. I love the part where the one guy or girl says, that's my line b*tch!

21. Can I ask you a simple question?

Do you believe that dangerous right wing extremist elements are using the Glenn Beck / Teabagger hysteria to recruit members?

Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 09:06 PM by jberryhill
Could be... I found the article while lurking in a birther forum.

I've been spending more of my "fun time" on birthers lately.

It's interesting when you find truther/birther overlap, because with the exception of some real whacktoids on Glenn Beck meetup groups, there isn't that much.

23. You don't believe Bush knew about it or even...
perpetrated the 9/11 attacks? Me neither. But he might be smart to have pretty quickly figured out that the whole thing was an inside job. The question is:
What did he know, and when did he know it.
