Messages for the general public about alleged conspiracies

1. Assuming that we're talking about actual criminal conspiracies, isn't it possible that if the general public can read the messages, then the conspirators can also read the messages? If the conspirators respond to the messages by modifying their mode of operation, then don't the message assist the criminals?

2. If the alleged problem isn't that the conspirators are in the process of committing actual crimes, but simply that they are too influential, then wouldn't posting descriptions of their words and actions on a public message board be counter-productive? In particular, wouldn't it give them a big audience and a reason to carefully plan their words and actions to have the desired influence?
